Got a three-month initial sub which includes a free Shadow Box for the first 500 users. Just got access today, it's a full PC instance, I'm having to set up the regional settings now just like pulling a new PC out of the box.

I'm using the MacOS client initially, that gives you options to use bandwidth up to 50Mb/s, reading on the forums/Twitter, the Shadow Box uses up to 200Mb/s, will be interested to see the difference.
 
Very interested in this especially with current pc hardware pricing....

Really liked the ps now stream service other than most of the games being stuck to 720p and 30 FPS so if this can do high/max settings at 1080 and 60 FPS then fantastic :cool:

My connection won't be a problem at all, got 220mb and going to be upgrading to 300mb in april and my latency is solid.
 
So, I've played DoW III (2560x1440@60 Max settings) no slowdowns or anything, works perfectly. Watching the throughput via my Google WiFi app, my MacBook was pulling up to 75Mb/s.

Installing games via Steam downloads @ 30Mb/s, going to give Ashes of the Singularity a spin next, really got this for strategy games as I have a Xb1x and PS4pro for FPS stuff.

One thing which is slightly annoying, my external monitor is 3840x1600, this is currently unsupported and so I have to use it in Windowed mode. I've asked for this res to be included as I've got Azure and VMware Horizon VM's which can cope with this resolution. They can go all the way to 4K in the Window settings.
 
Ran Ashes on my MacBook screen, full 2560x1600@60, max settings. No problem. Google WiFi reported 105Mb/s on some of the heavier scenes but I experienced no lag or tearing. All my peripherals work fine too.

I might step it up a bit later with some Mass Effect Andromeda tonight. Happy as I was going to spend 2.5k on a new PC next month when I got my bonus.

One thing though, using this on a hotel WiFi would be problematic, at this resolution anyway. That would be one reason to stick with your own hardware if you're travelling.

You will likely pay a sub fee. The problem with this is that they market it as virtual PC, when in actual fact, you are paying them to have the hardware.

if you want to pay monthly for good hardware, OCUK offer finance - you get the hardware, and guaranteed ownership of the games.

1080TI = £839
£839 / 24 = 34.95pm

Not sure about GeForce Now, but Shadow just lets you install Steam on the virtual PC and so all the games are still yours. I like the idea of not having to fork out thousands every year on new hardware as the virtual PC's will be upgraded with the latest tech as part of the subscription.

I've also created a custom resolution so my virtual desktop is 3840x1600, awesome.

If you've used Windows remote desktop, then this is the same thing on steroids. It's very subjective based on your internet connection and screen settings. If you have <1ms latency and one of those 1Gb connections, you could probably game at 1080p 144Mhz, but if you've got a poor connection or internal wiring to your PC you'll be stuck at 720p 30fps.

One criticism is that there isn't a network checking tool or a free trial, you have to spend money in order to see what your performance will be.

you only need to upgrade gpu every 2-3 years... that's the same cost as what you pay for shadow... up to you though, personal preference etc. It's good that you can use it on android etc... so there's that.
