I have the 2Gb Geil PC6400 Dual Channel kit in my Asus P5B Deluxe M/B (latest bios 711 i think) with a 6400 Core2Duo (not overclocked) but the memory is only detected as PC5300 (using CPU-Z)

I read somewhere (think it was on the ocuk forums) to change the freq to 800 in bios but CPU-Z still shows as PC5300. The thread also mentioned Geil leaflets explaining but I can't find the leaflet now.

Am I missing something?

Is there a big difference between the PC5300 and PC6400? My system is pretty fast as it is! :)

if its any consolation i have the same RAM as you and my cpu-z also detects my memory as 5300! and i made sure the voltage is set to 2.1v

Does exactly the same for me too, the memory seems to run fine at 800mhz though so I'm not overly concerned. CPUZ isn't the most reliable bit of software.

My Corsair ram auto detects at lower settings. You have to manually change it in the bios to get rated speeds!
I think its a con that it does not auto detect at the speed its sold as supporting!

You will have to change the timings in the BIOS most ram is the same it is doen so that it will boot in most motherboards if not there would be times that it would not boot making it look faulty when it is not, some motherboards default to 1.8v so if the settings were for 6400 it could not run because it needs 2.1v for that speed.
