Geil® Ultra DDR2 2.0GB PC6400 Dual Channel Kit (2 x 1GB) 800+MHz Ultra Low Latency CA

I got two sticks of these babies in my machine at the moment they r0ckz! :) Planning on getting another 2GB with the This Week Only offer!

Very good ram, fast and reliable :)

These arent the ones that are on the week offers bit... Theses are another set of memory altogether.. I've just been looking around and these have Micron chips in it.. I'll post the two links regarding the memory...

http://www.geil.com.tw/portal/product_DDR2-800PLUS.php

That's the stuff I'm on about and this is the other link to the page regarding the memory type..

http://ramlist.ath.cx/ddr2/

Where its got the stuff OC sell its :

PC6400 Ultra

GX21GB6400UDC / GX22GB6400UDC 4.0-4-4-12 @ 1.8~2.3V Aeneon AET93F30D Elpida

But this new stuff:

PC6400 Ultra Plus

GX21GB6400PDC / GX22GB6400PDC 3.0-3-3-8 @ 1.8~2.3V Micron D9GCT (B6-37E) or Micron D9GMH (B6-3)

The bottom one is what I've been told is the mutts nuts.. Aint cheap too. £310 for 2Gb's....

I mate

if you do not plan to do over 400fsb ( DDR 800) then Geil Ultra PC 6400CL4 is very good stuff
they are rated DDR 667 @ 12-4-4-4- 1.9V but they reach DDR 800 stable and fast

I had one kit of these GEIL,but i sell them and buy one kit Ballistix PC 5300
With Ballistix I can reach 520fsb (DDR 1040) mems 1:1( Asus P5B de luxe) satble

the best memory for overcloking have Micron Chips D9( with some variants)
like Crucial Ballistix PC 5300,Team Extreem PC 5300 & PC 6400

and seems that Geil PC 6400 Ultra PLUS have this chip´s too

Geil Ultra PC 6400 have Elpida chip´s or even Aeneon chip´s ( :p )
so they are cheap ,cause of the chip´s they are made of

I'm just playing about with some settings on my board at the moment, I'm just trying to run the CPU as fast as possible, without getting the temps miles to high..

Thing is, I have to sometimes use the 1333 strap as the 1066 seems to give me problems over 380FSB unless I run the 1333 strap and then I can post anything up to 445FSB with the Geil Ram..

I'm unsure what's holding me back more, the memory or the CPU... It seems to require a heck of a lot of voltage to go from 3.51Ghz to 3.61Ghz (1.45 to 1.575v) to run properly..

Here's a question for you tho, how do you do your overclocking? Lower multiplier and higher FSB or highest possible multiplier and fastest speed possible?

I mate

well, first of all,i have this board ( P5B de luxe)for about 1 month
at firts i have some troubles ,but I update the bios two times, last bios 910,and now everithyng is fine

I read somewhere that board has some " hole" of instability and lack of performance between fsb 330 and fsb 400 .like you said because the problems with the " strape" 1066 or 1333,cause the board assign the strape in auto mode
but seems last ASUS bios solves this problem
anyway I avoid to use this fsb between 333 and 399

Along with the ASUS P5B de luxe, I bought a CPU Intel Conroe Xeon 3050 ( it is like a E6400) and Ram Geil Ultra PC 6400 ( 2x512MB) rated 1.9~2.1V

I try the system to boot at 333fsb x 8 ( max multiplier of the cpu) mems 1:1 vdimm1.9V - fine
then at 400fsb x 8, mems at 1:1 vdimm 2.1- fine
I do some testing with SP 1M and the system was very stable

then I try 450fsb x 8, but the the boot frezzes
so I give some more Voltage to the Ram ( 2.2) more Vcore 1.4V and a little more voltage to the chipset
try again- 450fsb x 8 mems 1:1 - boots fine, the system seems fine but when I do SP 1M I get errors( mems problem)

I try 500fsb x 8 ( 4000 mhz)but no chance to boot- the system blocks completely

So I try again with 500 fsb x 7, mems at 1:1 - the system boots fine, but some errors in SP 1M
I even try 530fsb x 7 , mems at 1:1 - boots fine,works fine but no way to do SP 1M

After that i see that my board and cpu could go to a high fsb (500 and more) but the Geil Ultra PC 6400 only is stable at around 400 fsb ( maybe a little more),with 2.1V / 2.2V( I have more options on Vdimm on the board, like 2.5V or 2.55V but I do not want to " fry" the ram)

So I do a little "gogling" and find that the best ram to overclock ( without been too expensive like the chips rated PC 8000 or even PC 8500) is PC 5300 with Micron D9 GMHC chips

I now some friends ,who got great results with Team Extreem PC 5300 8-3-3-3 - like 550 / 560fsb ( DDR 1100 / DDR 1120) but they use high Vdimms ( 2.45/ 2.5V) - they are " fanatics overclockers" who does not mind to push the hadware to the limits :D ,and many times they get " dead" boards and ram

in my case ,I just want to overclock to a reasonable limit, wythout to use overvoltage in the chip´s

So I find that the Crucial Ballistix PC 5300 have the same chips as the Team Extreem PC 5300 ( by the way Team Extreem PC 6400 have the same Micron chip´s)
anyway I decided to try this Crucial ( and the price is very good too)
and they did the job

they are rated 2.2V ,but for overclocking to a at DDR 1000, i gave them a little mors voltage like 2.3 / 2.35V

And now I can do SP 1M at 480/ 500/ 520fsb with the system very stable
and that with a ram rated PC 5300 (DDR 533)
fenomenal sticks of ram

some pics:

PS - one thihg I forget to say

the cpu Vcore default is 1.30
wyth this vcore I can get the cpu to overclock to 2800 / 3000 mz stable

but to do 400fsb x 8 3200 mhz stable-( i´m using that speed 24/24) i need to up the vcore at 1.35V

and to do 480fsb x 8 satble i need to do 1,48/ 1.5V to the cpu

but not all the cpu´s are the same, some need more voltage to overclock at high speeds
but at 1.5Vcore the temps go up very fast, and with air cooling like i have i thing is not good for the cpu life spam

Should have bought two sets of the Crucial PC5300 stuff rather than the Geil then :( Oops!!

Not to worry, I'm sure it will be fine somehow or other!!

Thanks for the tip tho :) Still more expensive compared to the Geil and for £130 or whatever I paid for them, I'll stick with them just fine :)

I wont be worrying about the voltages going through them because I've ordered one of the Dominator fans that sits over the ram modules so, hopefully, that will help no end :)

yes ,Geil Ultra PC 6400 will do just fine
just do not go so far like the Crucial

and yes Ballistix 2 GB cost about 170£ :)

markyp 23:
thank´s mate, i´m not a " pro" overclocker,just for fun

my humble case( yes still Geil Ram in there, before i sell them :)

had some - and like MANY on this forum had to RMA it after 2 days as it wouldn't perform stock timings at stock speeds! got my money back and got some 2gb of Team Xtreem WELL WORTH IT over the Geil! wouldn't touch their ram again (and i've had some excellent kits - pc5300 value that ran 850mhz comfortably)

I'll bare it in mind should I ever be able to sell it off :) But does look like people do waste their money going for the PC8000+ stuff, if the PC53/6400 stuff works just as well :)

Great overclocks by the way :)

Oh one question, is it just specific to one lot/type of ram or is it any of them? I get the impression that the price of the ram can be a bit of a give away to how good it is... In theory anyways...

I paid £130 for my 2Gb of the Geil back in late August / early September and it does 950Mhz 4-4-4-12 at 2.2v. Not as far as the Corsair, Crucial or Team, but then I didn't pay for Corsair, Crucial or Team.

OCUK sell a heck of a lot of the Geil, hence the good prices they can offer.

I again mates

Geil Ultra PC6400 CL4 uses two types of chip´s
take a look at this link
http://ramlist.ath.cx/ddr2/

Elpida or Aeneon? is the question
if you got Elpida you are in the upperside
if you got Aeneon you are in the downside

but there is no way you now what chip´s you get, cause the heathspreaders are glued in a way you can´t open it,unlesse you " break" the stick

Geil has great ram,and their´s PC2 6400Ultra Plus 8-3-3-3 has nothing in common with Ultra PC2 6400CL4 12-4-4-4,and that is for sure,cause PC2 6400 Ultra PLUS uses D9 Micron chip´s :)

But the only problem with that Ultra plus stuff is that I've seen it for £310 for just 2Gb of it!!

I've just ordered 4Gb of the Ultra stuff with the 4-4-4-12 timings for less than £260!! The memory is perfectly fine for the speeds I'm using so I've no worries with it at all :) I've even bought a Dominator fan thingy that goes over the ram to help cool it down :) Figured with 4 sticks of ram on it, it needs to be cooled properly...

I've ordered some, that price is simply to irresistible, should be here tomorrow :D How can I tell whether I get Aeneon or elpida? I'm just looking at getting the E6600 I bought to 3Ghz-3.2Ghz which this ram should do at 4-4-4-12 right? :)

It certainly will. The e6600 only needs 9x356 to get 3.2Ghz.
