geil ram and overclocking

ive got to 3ghz on my e6300 however my ram is limiting me, wont go past 1160 mhz which is high for pc6400, on 5-5-5-22, or i can get it to run at 920 on 4-4-4-12

So do i need pc8500 to go higher than 1160mhz ?

if i use the spd higher than 2.50 the system wont post.

Too right it won't post lol...set the sys multi to 2.00 and timings to 5-5-5-15 and make sure vdimm is @ 2.1-2.2v then see what you can get to.

I take it you're on the lowest memory divider available?

That sounds about right for GeIL's PC2-6400, are you also running it at 2.3V. This is the highest GeIL will warrant.
