General consensus on gpus

So wondering what y'all here are buying when it comes to gpus atm. I'm interested in either the 480x2, 1070 or 1080. I run 3 monitors and game at 1080p and want VR, performance and value. In no hurry as yet.

I want VR and 4k although I don't have the 4k setup yet. For that I got a Zotac 1080 ( because they come with great factory overclocks so I don't have to worry about it :D ) and I am considering getting a 1080 TI when the time comes if the price is a reasonable £800-ish.

I would avoid anything x2 unless you are a 100% sure you will no have issues with any of the games you want to play. Between 2 x 1070 and a 1080, I'd choose a 1080.

Oh and there is no general consensus when it comes to GPUs. Depends on what you want, what screens you have, Gsync or Freesync, level of detail you want in games etc

im on freesync so ruled out nvidia and a pair of 480's has my attention but im a bit concerned about the current state of multi gpu so im sat on the fence at the mo holding on to my fury

3x1080p is 75% of a 4k screen... I'd be most inclined to get an nVidia 1080 for that set up :)

For myself, I'll get a 1070 for QHD or 1080 for 4k, depending on which monitor I finally choose. I insist on a quiet PC, so the better performance/watt you get with nVidia is a must to keep temps down.

The 1070 is what you want to go for IMO.

I faced the same choice (except 2 1080p monitors) and went for a Palit SuperJetstream 1070. It's basically completely silent and immediately clocked to 2.1 GHz core, 9000 MHz memory with no issue.

VR currently doesn't support multi-GPU, so 2x 480's would be more expensive and less performance in VR.

And the 1080 is just a stupid price. Should be like ~£550

Also the 1070 is powerful enough (when clocked to 2.1 core anyway) to run VR at 1.5x supersampling, which makes everything look noticeably sharper.

My long term plan is to swap the 1070 for a 1080 Ti or AMD Vega (just depends which turns out better) in anticipation for the HTC Vive 2 with 4K resolution.
