General consensus on Windows 'Game mode'?

Hi guys,

Whats the consensus on the Windows Game mode, especially after FCU? I have read benches from when it was first introduced and believe it made some performance even worse.

Saw some benches recently (after FCU) and it was kind of mixed-hard to draw a conclusion. It seemed it was somewhat dependent on hardware type (i.e. Vega doing pretty well?).

My cpu is a 1700x and gpu is a 1080Ti, so not Vega.

Thanks

I've not done any tests on fps, but the overlay that is meant to appear on your game screen where you can switch it on or of per game hasnt worked on a single thing I've tried. Pretty useless in that regard.

I done test with Vega 64 before I uploaded and I gained performance not ground breaking but it did increase performance. See the thread on here.
They is some gamers though that seem to do worse but it's hard to understand if it's pubg that is the issue or game mode.

I seem to get gains and works on all my game so far bar Wolfenstein 2, I see it pop up telling me to press Win+G but I cannot get it to appear unless I window mode the game with Alt+Enter then I can Win+G but I cannot change settings as I cannot get the cursor to leave the game to change setting on toolbar.

Seems pointless so far. You still can't get the gamebar to show up if running games proper fullscreen, which I always do due to using SLI, so you have to try and alt tab out and then do it, then go back in. Lots of games don't alt tab properly, so it seems a total waste of time.

If it even has any beneficial effects, which seems very debatable, the implementation of it needs to be totally reworked.

Thanks guys for this. I do agree it is implemented pretty strangely. I'll try it out here and there but hopefully they implement something more robust. I think the 'game mode' is a good idea in concept!

Works for me in full screen. Before the update though it didn't. Even works in tomb raider and that uses exclusive full screen

If you have the game bar enabled then Windows will try to hack the game to work in a hybrid borderless window rather than true exclusive full screen unless you disable full screen optimisations by right clicking the exe and selecting properties (it's under compatibility options).

As for game mode, it's a gimmick, at least on my 5820K and GTX 1080 and the method for enabling it for each game requires you to use the game bar which I believe is Microsoft's true objective.

I turn it on regardless.

Doesn't brake anything so all good.

Don't measure my fps so no idea if it's better or worse, but it's imperceptible either way so don't care.

When people post stating whether they have had a positive or negative result using Game Mode within the FCU it might be an idea also to drop in the info what CPU/GPU combination you are using...it just might be of use to some here and might help ;)

It also fixed the weird stutter I had on Spacehulk Deathwing. Vega 64 and 1950X Threadripper. I think the update is making far better use of all the cores.

Thanks

No difference in WOT, TWW2, TWW1, TW Attila.
Has to be turned off in CK2, EU4, Stellaris or else the game becomes slow and unresponsive.

Exactly. It's probably only going to get better and I know I don't have the will or time to try the different setting of this mode for every game I want to play to see whether it gives a few more FPS or not. Just switch it on and game on :)

With FO4,the game feels a bit more smoother, and stutters a bit less in settlements(IB Core i7 and GTX1080 at qHD),but that is the only game where I felt any noticeable difference.
