Is there any available software for checking that a given processor is fully functional?

I ask as I have spent the sodding weekend trying to get a good install of an I2500k and an Asrock extreme4 gen3.

I won't bore you with the various attempts, but I had many WIn7 64bit Ultimate probs and maybe with the Asrock software too.

I couldn't even get it to stay stable at 4.2......

So I want to check the CPU before I take things further.

Is the sytem stable at stock?

The only way to test the CPU is to have a stable system - so if the CPU is at fault you're in a 'catch 22' situation.

If you haven't done so already go into the BIOS and load optimised defaults and then input the correct memory settings manually - save and exit. Then run Prime 95 for a few hours or IBT for 20 passes. If the system passes these runs at stock then the CPU 'in theory' is working as it should be - regardless of its ability to clock i'm afraid (although this problem may be memory, MB, PSU etc related).

If you're still having stability issues at stock run memtest overnight from a bootable ISO.
