General Headphone Audio

Beyerdynamic Tygr 300R is the most comfortable headphone I've owned, very light, nice cushioned headband to the point you barely notice you're wearing them. Also comfortable in the sense they don't have that typical Beyerdynamic treble peak :p

You clearly have taste!

The other thing about the TYGR is that it has the lightest clamp of any classic DT Beyer I've owned, nearly not existent, but not so little that the thing falls off your head. Because I've been using the PC38X/HD58X/6XX a lot in the last year or so I do notice the treble of the TYGR more than I used too, but it's so smooth it isn't ever an issue. It certainly is a headphone you can wear for hours for gaming. The 990 earpads the TYGR shares aren't quite as comfy as the DT 770 pads but obviously have to be less dense so that makes sense.

I regularly wear headphones for six hours or more and my longest with the Aryas is twelve hours straight - no discomfort. The most comfortable headphones I own are my HD800S, they pretty much disappear when I put them on.

Or IEMs. After 20/30minutes my ears are smarting.

Wish I could tolerate them as there are some amazing bargains out there.

Speaking of IEM, I want to get a pair of Moondrop Pill. They look really different, open design, which is why I use the old wired Apple earbuds at work.

Think they popped up on my YouTube recommendations. Hadn't appreciated they were ear buds, or different design.

My most recent IEMs were the Truthear x Crinacle Zero: RED and they are phenomenal sounding. Great for gaming as they don't really care what they are plugged into.

I bought some Moondrop Chu 2 DSP to keep at work as the spare pair (I accidentally dropped the Apple ones in my coffee the other week). I find the Chu 2 to be underwhelming. There isn't that sparkle, and more importantly, I find that it hurts my ears, not sure if it's the pressure or what, can't use them for long. Actually, it hurts my head, it gives me a headache....

Couple of years ago I bought my other half some nice wireless IEMs for work. Within in a week she managed to drop one on the railway platform where it proceeded to bounce onto the track.

Should I get the red pill or green pill? :p

I got a replacement pair of Arya Stealth from Amazon today, they were happy to send a new pair when I reported an annoyance I had ages ago but forgot about, the left hinge on the headband is more grindy when pivoting it and that gets annoying as the other hinge is fine, again QC control, don't expect that on headphones that originally sold for £1400 and now at a £550.

Couple things I noticed, the box is diabolical. They don't even include the nice quality booklet or warranty cards any more, just box and the crappy foam stand thing lol:

I'll be sending the old ones back in the brown box and keeping the fancy box of course.

Also noticed the 3.5mm jacks on each cup are MUCH tighter than the old ones which were looser from day 1. I assume Hifiman updated this over time on later models as the fancy box only came with those production units.

Also, forgot how cheap and tacky the stock earpads felt, they really are terrible compared to the Voarmaks £16 pads.

So much cost cutting yet they increased the price over time from £510 to £550....

This is what I mean, for less money, more tech, you can get the Xm6.

The profit margins for wired hifi headphones is insane. Not even a box like the XM6, Bose, Momentums etc etc.

Closed back though and not planar :p

I think a better comparison appears to be the new Fosi i5, though it doesn't come with a nice case or anything, but its box is high quality like old Hifiman boxes were, yet Fosi don't need to charge the earth!

Speaking of which, have you backed it? The deadline is tomorrow I think.

I am watching it now. I have been waiting for this, been noticing it on his desk for several videos.

He does not like the HD660S2, finally someone else who resonates my same thoughts after buying and returning them. This means his view on the i5 is something that will more than likely align with mine given how many people swear by the 660S2, even at it's way over the top price.

Bang on point about the Arya Stealth there too, exactly the reason I am keeping it going because of that sound performance.

I think at £550 for the Arya Stealth, the Fosi i5 is going to have to put up a real good fight if it also sells at the £550 mark after Kickstarter ends. Regardless of what you get in the package, if the sound can't comfortably beat the Arya Stealth, then it's overpriced. Looking forward to giving it a good head to head when my i4 arrives.

One thing a few people have commented on is how enjoyable they find it, not about it's sonic excellence but just enjoyable. That really is what I am looking for above all else.

Yeah musical enjoyment not technical accuracy or the most level measurements is what matters to me more, well we all know my thoughts on measurements anyway which is why I tend to laugh them away just as he says, it's useful to see how they measure in specific areas, but subjective listening tells a different story.

For me the Arya Stealth is a personal reference headphones to beat for how music feels, I still think they should cost £100 less given the quality control lottery you have to put yourself through and that you don't even get a balanced cable in the box or good pads so that's an extra £70 odd right there that needs to be spent for comfort and the extra amplification from balanced outputs, but it is what it is I guess.

Edit* Forgot to say, Audeze LCD-5 V3 will be coming soon :D
