General Headphone Audio

So did anyone buy the ASUS ROG Kithara and how did you find them ? Are they worth the money compared to HifiMan's other offerings in the same sort of price range ? Will be used for gaming and music.

I just want to own a pair of planar headphones to go with my Focal Clear MG and Eligia. Just curious what people think and have tried other good headphones how they compare. The currently have them selling with Resident Evil, so maybe worth a punt.

Someone started a thread discussing them in this sub forum and i think there's a few posts further back in this thread aswell. Ive not heard them but honestly, between Hifiman's QC and ASUS's customer support, I would probably avoid them.

Good point, watching some reviews and one of the honest YouTube review guys that I find I have a lot in common with when he reviews things I have heard and agree with, seems to not rate them in a polite way and even says get the XS instead and for me that puts me off as I didn't think the XS were that great.

Then this guy seems to show graphs (graphs don't really always represent how they really sound I have found) and well seems to be think they are good value at $299. £285 in uk with resident evil..really makes them £250 as you can get RE for £35.

Just wondering if they are worth a try, but as you said HifiMan QC and ASUS warranty issues don't go well together .. but Asus has promised us all they will get better and have done since Gamers Nexus and other review channels called them out on their scammy warranty behaviour.

For that price you can get a refurb/open box he6sev2 direct from hifiman, if you have the amp to power it i would honestly recommend that instead. Hifiman build quality aside, with EQ its an end game headphone.

Think I'm going to give them all a pass for now as I just heard how bad the Mic is on the ASUS, was really for online BF6 gaming and thought well they can be used for music if I decide not to use them for online gaming, but if they sound like the XS, that's a no for me as they don't sound good to me. Was just having one of my Audiophile cravings for something new as the PC market is flushed down the toilet right now.

Was also looking for an IEM and looking at these :-

Letshuoer S12 Ultra

I have S12 Pro’s and love them.

Just come across the HFA Dahlia on reddit, it's interesting to see how many people are happy to pay nearly a grand for 3d printed headphones like these or the omega's or the auroras etc. For 300 you could buy all the components and the 3d printer to build as many pairs of them as you wanted yourself.

The X8 has had a new FW update today and one of the new additions is to show the headphones amp power output in realtime, that would be cool to see how dynamically the output power changes with swings in music. In office today so can't check it out currently but I like how this modern tech is going with stuff like this.

Be interesting to see what headphones are actually more than just a couple of mw's at most.

Will check with some busy music against the HD600 and HE1000se this evening, I think the Egret arrives tomorrow as well, EVRI emailed saying they have a package at the hub now. Should be a fairly exciting week for headphone scenes.

Here we go...

HE1000se:

HD600:

When no headphone is connected the HP output reads around 1391mA I guess which is what it rests at.

Not even hitting 2 watts power output and that's at -19dB max gain, I suppose I need actual hard to drive headphones to test with to see if the 4.5 watts can be reached.

So the HP Power value it gives is the total power of the unit?

I assume the head amp value is the actual headphone current draw? Although it been identical between headphones maybe not.

Seems a weird and very unclear way of presenting the info. Doesnt seem like its even actually providing the actual power output from the amp.

Looks like it is just calculating the current and voltage of headamp and giving the output in mW power output which is I guess expected electrically:

So:
P=V×I where VV is the voltage the X8 shows, and II is the current it shows

Assuming these are RMS values as well, then...

PmW=PW×1000

Or just directly multiply as the correct format values are shown anyway.

1809mW is what I got which adds up.

But those values dont look to be for the amps actual output.
Both the voltage and current readings are the same for both tested headphones which are of different impedances and set to different levels.
If those values were actually measuring the output the the hd600 readings would have a higher voltage and lower current than the he1000 due to their higher impedance and a higher mw count due to the output being set to a higher lever at -19dB.
If it was at 1800mw at -19db aswell then the amps full power would be about 180w xD

Must be internal values then or being pulled from somewhere else on the boards

I am going to attempt to EQ some headphones for the first time and have oratory 1990`s file for the headphone adjustments to make and have installed equaliser apo and peace equaliser apo.

So looking at the file provided by oratory there are 10 bands and a different figure for Q-Factor and BW.

But in the software, peace apo I can see what looks like 13 bands and i can only see Q-Factor. I can not see BW.

Do i just ignore the bands above 10, and how do i adjust BW in this software. I only see Q-Factor so its confusing what to do.

q-factor is the same as bw so just ignore the bw and set the q factor in peace. You dont have to worry about the extra bands either just leave them and set the 10 bands you require to modify.
