General internet forum query

Is it possible to somehow view pages which were once on an internet forum but which have since been taken down?

I don't ask for the purposes of OcUK forums but another internet forum which I cannot name here. All I want to do really is just see what the posts said on a thread which once existed. I was told by a friend that it was possible but not in every case.

How would I go about tracking said pages down?

Search on Google, and hope that it is cached.

site:[forums.somesite.com] [keywords or boolean expression here]

Should throw up results then you can select cache.
