I've had my Leatherman for a long time and use it a lot.
They are expensive.
I have a charge tti that cost £150 when I bought it.
They are good, but that's still a lot of money. Could buy a toolbox and tools for much less.
Go outdoors have a selection in store, it's the sort of thing that it's worth trying in person before buying.
Maplin and b+q have cheap ones that look ok for occasional use.
I'd probably get one of those and replace with a Leatherman or Gerber if you use it enough.

I've got a leather man, hate using the screwdriver part of it as it's off center it's just too cumbersome. It would be a million times quicker to go and get a screwdriver.
Just chuck a Phillips driver in the drawer where the multi tool will end up.

I have a leatherman, and a few chinese ones, that i've picked up for next to nothing. I like to have one with me when i'm out in the woods on my dirtbike... Actually funny enough, on boxing day, i was out riding in the Everglades, which is far more remote than anything you can imagine in the UK. Not as bad as the outback, or anything, but if break down you're up the creek so to speak. Anyhow, I managed to ride over some barbed wire, which somehow tightly wrapped itself around my swingarm, tire, chain, and sprocket.. It was so tight, i'm surprised it didn't blow my tyres. I had to get off my bike, pull my little chinese tool out and carefully pry and snap off bit by bit.. Took me nearly an hr.. But it did save my ass ! So with that in mind.. I know i said get a leatherman a couple of posts up, but thinking back, i do owe it to give a shout out for the chinese ones !!!
Try opening only one side of the tool.
That way the bit is in the Centre and the tool is twice as long so you can use it more like a normal screwdriver.

Leatherman all the way, Started out with the PST, then moved onto the Supertool, and now have the Surge (with the bit kit). Tried the Gerbers in the past, not quite as good as the Letherman IMHO.
I have a £20 Gerber that lives in my work bag in case cage nuts need a bit of persuasion, boxes need cutting open etc. If this is for home use then what you need is a tool bag, since you'll just end up with having to carry a multitool and a hammer, screwdriver, tape measure, spirit level etc etc.
Not sure how you mean, there's no way it can end up centralised on my one.

+1 for Leatherman. Well worth the money.
I have a baby toolbox in the house - just about lunchbox size. I keep a roll of insulation tape, ptfe, epoxy resin, Stanley knife, pliers, the two allan keys that fit everything in the house, zip ties, flat and philips screw driver, tape measure, baby hammer and panel pins. It sits in the inside hardware drawer and does almost everything I need to do in the house. If I need anything else it is normally a big enough trip I don't mind wandering to the shed to grab the tools for it. I have had a few multitools and they are ok - but just not as good as having those basic hardware bits in the house for.
