Hey,

I'm trying to upgrade a PC so I can play decent games and shiz.

Currents specs are:

512mb DDR ram (yeah, DDR origional favour).

nVidia GeForce 5500 series.

Intel Pentium 4 2.8ghz.

I'll obviously need more RAM, but is the CPU good enough?

Also, I *think* the motherboard can only support DDR ram and no higher (its a P4SD-LA one from an HP pavillion) so will I need a new motherboard?

This: Motherboard Specifications, P4SD-LA (Oxford) HP Pavilion a562n Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

If so, is this any good? And does it do what I need? Gigabyte G41M Combo Intel G41 (Socket 775) DDR2/DDR3 microATX Motherboard []

I know about graphics and CPUs, but motherboard make me run for cover and cry like Justin Beiber.

Any help is appreciated :)

Welcome to the forums :)

As RJC said, we need to know your budget to spec you properly. What's your monitor resolution?

If you can afford it, a full PC overhaul (CPU, mobo, RAM, PSU and graphics) will really make a difference.

tbh fella as you've got a Socket 478 mobo & chip, i really wouldn't spend so much as a penny on it, it's well & truly obsolete. if you can scrape the funds together, you'd see far more of a return for your money by doing a cpu/mobo/ram/gfx upgrade if you can.

Like VoG said, that PC is so old you will do better forgetting it all and getting a whole new system.

To upgrade it you will be looking at new CPU, memory, motherboard, graphics card. Plus the PSU is likely to be very small and hard drives too. So pointless trying to upgrade it, just go for a whole new system.

OC have some great systems here from bargains right up to gaming ubersystems!
