Hello all,

Ive got an interview tomorrow at a local watering hole and have done bar work before and found on average a full shift (6 hrs) is £30.

Just wondering if this was the general price everywhere? anyone else thats done it before that can give advice for the interview would be great :)

Many Thanks,
Jake

40p over minimum wage =\
If you were flirting and socialising with hot girls everyday, meeting people your age and then spending time with them outside of your work... I'd take it.

Working in coffee bars can be like that and great fun but not always.

I used to work in a rather up market bar and got minimum wage. Worked for 9 hours a night and got upto £100 tips a night on fridays and saturdays. Although this bar was rammed, was 2 people back at the bar all night and I had to serve 3 people it was a right laugh and i'd do it again if i could
It's just not worth it working in bars or pubs where you don't get these tips.

£5/hr is slave labour and below minimum wage (assuming you're 21+).

I've done bar in several places (hospitality catering though - not pubs) and I've never been paid less than £6/hr. Normally get average £60 for an 8hr shift. That's not even including tips (although it's rare the waiters share their tips with me). I wouldn't do the job for half that to be honest.

fake ID and make sure it's cash in hand.
So the same guy who's willing to break the law and pay *cash in hand is going to make sure he's paying minimum wage?

* assuming by 'cash in hand' you're meaning 'without telling the tax man', otherwise your statement still doesn't work.
