hi
I have just returned a pair of samsung f1 750Gb drives - they failed RAM tests in my new pc. strange. was from a different retailer. hopefully the refund will go through.
i ordered a replacement - 300GB velociraptor. cant wait to get it fired up!
new pc is sitting waiting on it (i7 based pc).
ive been clearing out things to get room ready for the new baby - and found an old hard disk that i never opened from its packet - a Raptor wd1500adfd! cant believe i never used it! what a numpty!! anyways, its 3 years old and still in the sealed antistatic bag.
What do u reckon... fire it up?? might be dead and dont want to fry anything!
shame i cant return it and get a Black edition (or 2 RE3s for mirroring) to compliment the raptor!!
its obviously out performed now by the vr - but would it be any use? be noiser (i got a sapphire 4870 vapor x to be quiet), so maybe bit of an extinct beastie now!

thoughts?

(got the VR just now as need the good response times to play a particular game thats best with that kind of access time, and will get a 2nd or 3rd gen SSD later in the year)

Cheers

As long as hasn't taken any bangs or exposure to heat then it should be fine.

I would sell it thought and return the newly purchased raptor and get an SSD.

heat would not be an issue as they not been running, its the dropping part that can be bad, HDDs to not expire but do wear out other time when been used, if does not work you find out when you plug it in and turn it on nothing bad will happen

i sell them and get an SSD 128gb OCZ aglility (£250) for an start it be far far faster then any raptor or 15k RPM disk

use windows 7 so you can used TRIM when SSD makers update there firmware to support it
