Hi

Any comments on proposed build for parents?
Only need it for general office/ internet use. Hopefully slightly future proofed.

Intel Core i3 4170
Asus H81M-C Micro-ATX Motherboard
Corsair Memory Vengeance Jet Black Low Profile 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz
CiT Marvel Case
Samsung 5.25" SATA 24x DVD/CD Writer Drive
Kingston ssdNow SV300S37A/V300 120GB
Seagate Barracuda 1TB Internal Hard Drive
Corsair CXM 430W Hybrid Modular Power Supply
Windows 10 Home 64Bit English DVD OS

Approx £400

Cheers

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £400.58
(includes shipping: £11.70)

Pros:

Asus H81M-PLUS has midboard USB 3.0 for the case's ports. H81M-C doesn't.

The Crucial SSD is better than the Kingston V300.

The XFX PSU has a five year warranty instead of three.

None of these things are going to impact performance noticeably, just maybe a little better for the money in other respects.

Cons:

No DVD drive.

^ Nice. 1 TB HDD though, they going to need that much space?

Also I'd stretch another £15 for a more efficient and appropriate capacity PSU if I were you:

1tb offers the best bang/buck. 500gb would cost only a couple of £s less - in fact some smaller drives are more expensive.

In regards to the power supply the one Danny has listed is actually made by Seasonic (like Superflower, oner of the best OEMs out there) and has 396w available on the 12v rail - more than enough. Comes with a good warranty and very good price too.

I wasn't saying the XFX is too small, I was saying it's too big! This machine will likely use 50-80 W all its life. That 430 W XFX would be operating at 11-18% of its load. Very inefficient that low.

Really a 150-200 W PSU would be good but the smallest Gold rated I can find is the 350 W Superflower.

Yes it won't make much difference to bills in absolute terms but still better to have a higher efficiency, smaller PSU.
