Anyone have any thoughts on this query, or could point me in the general direction of online advice/guidance? I realise that this isn't a legal forum but perhaps someone has a similar experience and could advise?

I bought a 'refurbished' 55" TV on the bay from Panasonic outlet, which came with a 12 month warranty, of which I am within. It was cheap and cheerful, it has it's faults such as pretty awful back light bleed and a fairly poor overall picture, however I accepted those as it was cheap and I bought it in full knowledge it was a risk. It does the job, or it did.

It has now developed a couple of faults. The first is that when headphones are plugged in its a nightmare to get them to work properly, they work fine in every other appliance just the TV. Once they are unplugged the TV does not register this and thinks they are still plugged in so wont output audio through the speakers.

Now the picture has become so messed up it's very clear that there is a major issue with the panel, colours all over the place, weird banding, green replacing all blacks and other weird stuff. Change AV input it fixes itself for say 30 seconds and it's the same. Clear issue.

Panasonic are being fine about arranging an in warranty repair however they are saying that they cannot arrange a repair with the TV being in the original or similar packaging, which seems reasonable until you think about it. Can everyone really be expected to retain he packaging of every electrical item they own for the duration of the warranty in case of a faulty? Its a 55" TV, the box was HUGE and I live in a flat!

I am now faced with paying around 25 quid for a box to return it for repair, within warranty, because I didn't have the space to store a humongous box for a year in case their product broke down. Does anyone else have experience of a similar situation, and what was the outcome? End of the day Ill probably just have to pay as its cheaper than losing out on the TV but it seems farcical.
 
Stick something on freecycle or facebook to see if anyone local has got something you could use?

Yeah done that on the off chance but still seems a pretty poor "condition" or a repair being done. My PS4 broke and Sony didnt ask me for the original packaging, in fact they sent a courier to pick it and he stuck it in a box. I get a 55" TV is a bit different but surely they cant reasonably expect people to retain the packaging for it, its huge.

Check out your local locknstore, safestore, big yellow storage type of places. LCD TV boxes typically £10 from there.
 
Mate you bought a dodgy cheap tv which went wrong. The manufacturer is offering to correct your mistake for free and all they ask is you send it back well packed.

Jump at this opportunity, reach out with both hands and don’t look back! £25 is the bargain of the century!!

He bought a refurbished TV, it should still work and comes with a warranty which they are honouring as they should.

All big items I've had replaced have always been picked up by a courier who packs the item on collection so I'd ask if they can arrange to do that to minimise the risk of damage. Failing that this seems a good shout:

Be careful when choosing a courier though, many will not cover a TV under their insurance so if it gets damaged and panasonic blame the fault on the damage then you are screwed.

He bought a faulty TV. Read the OP properly. He lists the faults and even puts ‘refurbished’ in brackets.

When I had to return a colour laser printer to Amazon under extended warranty I still had the box but the courier they sent came with a box and loads of bubble wrap to put it in, check with Panasonic over what courier company they use as they may do similar.
 
I am really surprised Panasonic is doing this, normally they arrange local repair service and they have specific pickup packaging for tv's.

I normally cut the box and flatten it and keep the TV bio somewhere. its the polystyrene parts that take up space, they go in the loft.
 
for the op, as said, yes you have to send it back securely packed ... no big surprise. .. and they pay carrier.

The ebay store mark stuff as refurbished, but none of the stuff I've had has been marked in anyway, so appears to be just 'surplus'/unused.
the products are always fully functioning - the 'defects' listed are typically issues, to a more or less degree with any lcd tv's.

They don't use the normal channels for repairs, probably because they are usually older models, but they are responsive if you email them ...
had some missing parts in a tv stand.
