Anyone going to see Genesis at old trafford next Saturday?

I watched their show live from Dusseldorf in a VUE Cinema the other night and it was great, I was surprised I liked it so much so I've now got tickets to goto the Manchester gig now.

One of my dreams would be to get the original band back together and make Phil Collins get back on the drumkit.
However, I must admit that I saw the original Genesis 3 times and when Gabriel left Collins did do an excellent job of filling in on the Trick Of The Tail tour.

Do you like Phil Collins?

I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility.

At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism.

Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock.

Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist.

I've watched them about 5 times all post Gabriel and they're great to watch. My favourite gig was probably at Roundhay Park in Leeds due to the sheer scale of it. I'd love to see them at Old Trafford, how hard was it to get tickets and what did you pay for them?

No - he is the anti christ :)

I actually accepted Collins as the Genesis singer on the Trick Of the Tail album.
I bought it, played it to death and went to see them on the trick Of the Tail tour at Bingley Hall, Stafford.
It was a fantastic concert and everybody came away saying how Collins had done an excellent job ............... and then he went to the dark side.
His solo stuff is some of the worst music I've heard. It seemed he released the same record over and over and this meant that I couldn't take Genesis seriously anymore.
To be honest they were hitting the time when I would start getting bored with bands (around the 6th album) and that counts for everybody including Zeppelin, Purple, Uriah Heep, Judas Priest, Sabbath, Metallica etc.
I go so far with a band and then I think enoughs enough but every now and then a band brings out a classic such as Aerosmiths Permanent Vacation and Van Halens 1984.
I'm still waiting for Genesis's comeback album but it would have to sound like Foxtrot, Selling England By The Pound, Nursey Crime or Trespass. I got bored with Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.

I'm going - can't wait! :)

I was really up for seeing Genesis at the cinema... until I saw the price! £15 for a 2 hour gig in the cinema?! I'm sorry but I'm not lining Collins pockets with anymore dosh... he's had his fair share already at £60 a ticket for the gig!

I saw them on the Invisible Touch tour at Wembley and thought they were great.

I also got into them when I first heard Duke, which I think is a classic album with not a bad song in sight. The Peter Gabriel years were too out there for me as well.

Ditto!

I've said that for years, I first heard "The Lamb Lies Down..." and fell in love with it. Thats about the only reunion that is missing from this year. I'd appreciate that more than a RATM world tour, and for me that is saying something.

DMP, did you ever hear Jeff Buckley's cover of Back In NYC?
