Hello! Apparently the new Nanos have this Genius feature. I have the 80GB Classic - the latest model as far as I know, barring the new 120GB one. Does anyone know if there's an iPod update for the Classic with the new Genius thing on? I'm at work and obviously can't check iTunes until I get home.

Apparently not coming to the old classics :(
from here: http://www.macrumors.com/2008/09/10/genius-feature-coming-to-older-ipod-classics/
Update: Cnet.co.uk has retracted their claim after being contacted by Apple.

A previous version of this article suggested Apple would be making a free update for the original iPod classic that would add Genius functionality. Apple gave us a call, and apparently an Apple representative at the event the other day wasn't as much of an expert as we'd hoped.

Apparently there aren't plans to offer a free Genius-enabling update to the original iPod classic. This was, by the way, the same rep who told us high-definition iTunes downloads would be supported by the new iPod classic -- something that turned out to be only vaguely accurate.

Probably to be expected really.

Apple's ideology always has been 'If you want new features, buy a new one'.
Or pay for the update, like they now do with the Touch.

it's not that great anyway, it just takes similar artists and picks random songs. If it actually did anything about the sound of the songs it wouldn't put things like intros or the "disclaimer" by the offspring or bonus interview tracks - all of which I've had in genius playlists.
