Down under mate!
Firstly I have a genuine copy of windows xp pro which came with my dell PC.

So I'm hoping Don's will not remove this post like they did the last one,(admittedly I may not have worded my last post very well)

Basically I did a windows update and it installed this windows genuine notification software which leaves an Star like icon in my tooltray.I have right clicked on the icon which directed me to the microsoft web site and verified my copy of xp .

1st,

After verifcation should the icon stay in the tooltray.

2nd,

All the Pc's at work are running Xp pro they all have this installed but the icon is not in the tooltray.

3rd,

Why does it leave the icon in the tray on my pc ,but not on the works PC?

4th,

Can I remove the silly icon and stop wgatray.exe starting up all the time?

Again I have genuine copy of xp pro,

reagards,

Thundy.

the blue star also appears if your version of windows is not "up-to-date" have you got the latest windows updates?

a quick search in google with the correct "phrase" would give you some intructions on how to remove the annoying blue star

i would post a link but its rather a "grey" area... you say your copy is genuine, but thats what they all say... :)

Maybe I should post a photo of my Windows disk etc.

Also I have not installed sp2 maybe that is why it stays in the tray.!

Why don't you just contact microsoft to sort this out? They think it's not genuine, as far as you've said it is so there wno't be a problem. I don't think this topic will last long...

Microsoft have verified my copy of windows in genuine you need to read posts more carefully.

I wanted to know why the star icon continues to stay in the taskbar,$c8t@ is more than likely right because I have not updated to sp2.

i didn't mean to imply that you had a non-genuine version of windows i was just stating that its against the rules to post anything in the way of warez or "activating" counterfeit software...

anyway...

usually, if it is because you dont have SP2installed, a balloon alert will pop up prompting you to update and stating SP1 is not supported as of october 2006 ? (something like that anyway)

im sure if you hover over it with your mouse, or click the icon it will give you some more info about what its trying to tell you :)

I know you didn't m8,and yes you are spot on if I put the mouse over it ,it does say 'Support for windows xp sp1 ends october 10th 2006' (I only get the balloon though if I put the mouse over the icon)

Ok I'm off to install sp2 thanks for your help.

Thundy.

'Don' please delete this thread thankyou.

I would remove it myself...
Can easily be done, (well you need a qwick mouse hand). It serves no advatage to you, just another way to gleam details of you. I consider it a breach of privacy...

Just google to find out how to delete it.
