"Over the past six months, two women have been trying to extort millions of dollars each from me and my family. They are falsely claiming that I sexually abused them over 45 years ago in the 1970s."

True or false allegations I'll bet the part about extorting money is 100% true.

As long as you do it through a suitably greasy lawyer it's not blackmail.

absolute ****-take, this practice of bringing up accusations from decades ago. it's just getting worse/stupider by the case too. used to be stuff like "happened last year" and now it's "happened half a century ago".

It's only stupid if we ignore the cultural changes since then in the legal system, law enforcement and wider society. If the police even today are having issues with abuse victims speaking to them then 50 years ago it would have been nearly impossible.

Why is their first port of call to try and get millions of dollars? This is always the case

Whilst inherently suspicious I think the litigious nature of their country more than accommodates such a desire especially as a means to settle on a lower more reasonable offer assuming the claims are true, obviously if he thinks it's bogus or doesn't think they have evidence then he wouldn't settle so a formal suit is the natural progression if the claimants are serious.

Perhaps they're lying, but that's for a judge/jury to decide.
