German Military

I don't think any restrictions were put in place because the territory was administrated by the British/Americans and the Russians.

I believe they are still forbidden to have a proper army/airforce.

I'm not so sure about that.

But they currently have both. The Bundeswehr are a very capible force. The German special forces are some of the best in the world.

Like I said, no restrictions were placed on Germany after WWII

Not true. They have an army, navy and air force, known collectively as the Bundeswehr.

The military part of the federal defense force consists of Army (Heer), Navy (Marine), Air Force (Luftwaffe), Joint Support Service (Streitkräftebasis), and Central Medical Services (Zentraler Sanitätsdienst) branches.

The Bundeswehr has 200,500 professional soldiers, 55,000 18-25 year-old conscripts who serve for at least nine months under current rules, and 2,500 active reservists at any given time.

The number of civilian employees is to be reduced to 75,000 during the coming years. Roughly 300,000 reservists are available to the Armed Forces and participate in defense exercises as well as abroad deployments.

according to wiki in 1919 after the first world war

The treaty of Versailles imposed severe restrictions on Germany's military strength. The army was limited to one hundred thousand men with an additional fifteen thousand in the navy. The fleet was to consist of at most six battleships, six cruisers, and twelve destroyers, and the Washington Naval Treaty established severe tonnage restrictions for German warships. Tanks and heavy artillery were forbidden and the air force was dissolved. A new post-war military (the Reichswehr) was established on 23 March 1921. General conscription was abolished under another mandate of the Versailles treaty.

this lasted until 1939 when obviously the germans werent playing by the rules. i thought a similar treaty was imposed at the end of the second world war.

Oops, edited for correction: Germany did not face new restrictions, but the division of the country into East and West resulted in a restructuring of the military for both regions and a weakening of their respective forces.

What difference would it make anyway?

The country has rarely used its forces since WWII. As for special forces.. I mean, look at them all happy in their tents in Afghan. Brilliant special forces, must have a lot of knitting to do or something...

Germany will never have the appetite to fight again.

I never said they didn't have an army i said "Proper" army :p They are totally limited in what they can do by their constitution and laws so the army is restricted to defending their own borders.

But they do have a proper army, and it is in active service around the world. It is not restricted to defending Germany's borders.
