...so back in 2006 he rugby tackled a player to the ground in a utter spit in the face of sportmanship... http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17582424

But at least it's nice to see his unsportsman like behaviour doesn't stop when he leaves the pitch.... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/merseyside/8160783.stm

When did the line between professional sportsman and lout get so fine? So a swimmer can be banned for X months for just a photo, but Gerrards gets away with appalling behaviour on and off the pitch and is rewarded with an armband...

Grrr... :)

should have the book thrown at him to be honest. big headed git. Just because someone didn't want to let him control the music.

I cant even see Gerrard fighting in any of that footage, he's wearing a greyish jumper with a white shirt underneath and the only person wearing the same thing appears to be the one being punched?

Yea. The CCTV footage is rubbish, however Gerrard has admitted in a police interview that he threw a punch in self defense. No doubt he'll get let off, or at worst given a slap on the wrist though. I just hope he learns his lesson and stops listening to Phil Collins.

Oh come on you can see the movements Gerrard makes he's throwing punches. He admitted to throwing one (atleast) in self defense. Do you see anything from the other guy that suggests Gerrard was acting in self defense? Especially after he's just been elbowed in the head.
Can you make out who is who from the CCTV? As Burned Alive says, the person that it's suggested is Gerrard appears to be wearing a completely different top to the guy who's later being pulled away.

The CCTV footage is totally inconclusive and nobody can say who's done what.

If this was Joey Barton the same people saying 'where you there' would be hanging the guy.

Barton's previous record may have something to do with that though :)

Apart from the anti Gerrard brigade who know Gerrard punched him in the face multiple times, gave him a Chinese burn and called him a girl ;)

Witness statements will be the deciding factor in this case not some crappy video.

Ive watched it a few times now and all I see is the guy throwing an elbow and then punching the guy. no one else is even fighting on the video. It even says in the write up that it only shows Gerrard being pulled away.

A scuffle ensued in which Mr Gerrard appears to throw uppercuts at Mr McGee.

The player is next seen on camera back in the restaurant being held back by a friend.

Thats some selective reading you did then, as those lines are write next to each other in the line up.

edit: and if the footage was totally conclusive then why were the chargers of assault dropped?

As far as I know because the guy assaulted magically dropped the charges(after so obviously being paid off), affray is something the police can charge him with himself, like you can be charged for causing a riot even if you didn't actually smash a shop window yourself.

Then again if I was the guy, living and working in a city full of people who love Gerrard, with everyone knowing who I am and what I looked like I'd be hesitant to press charges and take Gerrard to court aswell. No I'm not saying every scouser would kill him, but EVERY football club has its nutter fans who would do things, even more fans who while utterly wasted bump into the guy and decide to get a little retribution.

You have some pretty funny logic DM :p

I hope you're right though because if the guy has been paid off then I'll expect to see him being called as a witness and admitting to causing all the trouble.

Yup - Quality geezer ain't he... Just the sort of person this country deserves as the figure head of their team...

don't speculate as to guilt or not prior to any verdict

definitely should be! When I grow up I want to be like him :)

Good to see some detectives are on OcUK, I thought it was just random people rambling but it looks like we could have a serious police squad on here!

Footballers get away with far more then the "average" man.

Gerrard, won't get much if anything for this I don't expect.

So many Liverpool fans on this board :D

Strange how supporting a football team on the one hand seems to mean some sort of religious idolization of players on 'your side', and also some sort of demonizing of every other teams supporters? Just never understood the 'tribe mentality'... :)

Not that I have any time for the whining, moaning, hypocritical little cretin that is Gerrard he is probably more guilty of his own stupidity than anything else. Maybe a tad harsh, i'll take back whining and moaning.

Maybe Gerrard was wanting to play Ferry across the Mersey on the CD Player was too much for the poor fella and quite rightly so refused to give it up. Maybe the victim wanted a bit of New York New York to close the nights music down. Does he deserve to be viciously assaulted for that :p

Gerrard is a public figure and should know better. However, to suggest this action is on par with Barton is ludicrous. Also for him to claim self defence when clearly his mate elbowed the victim in what appeared to be an unprovoked attack then throw a few punches along with some of his other hangers on again is naive and crass.

He will get his just deserts tomorrow and if the law is carried to the letter he should be treated no different than you or I just because he is Steven Gerrard. He should not be punished any more or any less just because of his public profile.

For common assault the maximum punishment is £5000 fine and or a maximum of a six month sentence. Anybody wishing for more than a fine and some community service is quite frankly away with the fairies

Charges of assault were dropped. He's been charged with affray.

You are right regarding how he should be treated in relation to the 'average joe'. Had this case not involved a footballer then it wouldn't have got to court.
