gaming @ 1920 x 1200
q6600 stock
4 gig 1066mhz ram
asus p5q deluxe

My system is the same as yours except my Q6600 is clocked to 3Ghz.

I have an almost 1 year old 3870 X2 and am debating with myself whether to
1. Stick with what I have until the summer
2. Get a POV GTX 280 while there are some left
3. Get a GTX 295 - I've read mixed reports regarding noise
4. Get a GTX 285 when released - should be the quietest of those I'm considering
5. Get a 4870 X2 - ruled out as it's too loud

Well if you have loads of money then get the GTX295 .

imo it looks a nice card.

@ 1920 res the cpu might be a bottleneck at that speed you've got it at.

Can you not overclock it to at least 3.2 ghz?

I think the Q6600 would be fine if he overclocked it.
X58 based is the only current system which has perfect SLI scaling. GTX295 is wasted on anything else as you cannot unlock the full potential so you may as well go 4870X2 or a single GTX280. IMO pointless buying a gfx card if you can only ever unlock 85-90% of its potential. Save some money and buy a 4870X2 instead. Most of the 295 benchmarks do not show this. Look at benchmarks using I7 (most of which are clocked @ 3.7Ghz or higher which trounces all over a Q6600 overclocked or otherwise) then compare to Q2D. Unless your running above 1920x1200 your unlikely to notice any real world differences anyway over 4870X2.
