Treating myself on friday, finally think ive settled on a 70d, although they are a tad expensive and so i was thinking grey import. Ive heard good things about dig rev or portus as well as them honoring warranty. I just wanted to hear from others if they've used them and what they thought of them. Also wondering whether to ditch the kit lens, buy lenseless and get a decent lens and if so, whats a really good lens to start off with.

I bought my 70d from DR not long after it was released. I've bought a few items from DR and never had any issues so I wouldn't worry about buying from them. There's the usual potential problems if you ever need to use the warranty but that just means it takes a while longer to get fixed.

As for the kit lens, it depends what you plan on doing with it :) do you have any other lenses to use with the 70d body if you buy it? What other lenses are you considering?

I have used digital rev a few times and never been let down including a warranty claim on an s100, I sent it to a uk repairer and they reimbursed the costs provided I got a quote which stated the work would normally be a warranty repair. Always worth considering a lens upgrade as while the 18-55mm kit lens isn't bad there are some better options you might like to consider ie the 15-85mm or the 17-55mm f2.8 if you have the budget this might avoid the first bout of upgrade itus!

if i was to just get the body to make t cheaper what cheapish lens could i get to make it roughly the same price, or should i just get the kit lens

You won't get anything cheaper than a kit lens with the camera.

Cheapest upgrade us probably a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8

This skipping the kit lens is about getting an upgrade not saving money! If this is your first slr I'd say get the kit lens it's actually pretty decent unlike the previous version that was a steaming poo of a lens. Then you can learn what you like and upgrade to suit at a later date.

The OP wanted to skip the kit lens but spend the same amount of total money as camera+kit lens. That is basically impossible, you will never get a lens at the same value that comes close in performance.

Which is exactly what I said thanks ta.

Basically, the kit lens when bought with the camera is discounted quite a lot so unless you've got decent lenses already, I'd definitely buy it.

I got the 18-135mm STM kit lens when I bought my 650d. It was a good lens but in hindsight I think the 15-85mm woulda been a bit better since it's more versatile.

well thats my point i know theyre good, but theyre not that good, and i can save a good 120 usually if i just get the body then if i was to get a decent lens for 120, but with a bit of research ive found this method dosent really exist. I used to have a 650d and it came with the 18-55 and it was pants

That's what I pointed out, you will never get a lens as good for that 120.

Up your budget to 300 or more for the lens if you think you want to upgrade .

No, you said skipping the kit lens is about getting an upgrade but the OP has a budget that can only afford the kit kens.

Which is exactly what my first sentence says 'skipping the kit lens is about getting an upgrade not saving money' thanks.

right, used flubit, put in a rainforest link that involved the kit lens £849 its given me a 13% discount so itsnow £740 ish, wow is all i can say, anyone had a positive experience with them ? also the merchant is hangsun uk, never heard of them, its not another grey import is it, their actual website upon research is a lot cheaper than dig rev, so im assuming no cashback fron canon, id rather buy a proper uk one, its just so hard as i need it delivering before xmas, prefably tomorrow as we have a few important family events, any input in the next hour would be amazingly appreciated, based on that, is going to be the outcome, fingers on the trigger.

Doubt you'll get anything by tomorrow unless you can go to an actual shop!

Oh I know that, just been to the curry shop and it was closed :( looks like I'm gonna have to spend 900 in the morning, it's only an 140 quid saving and the warranty seems shady at least it will be a UK warranty.
