Getting a BT line installed

Fed up of not getting competitive internet/phone prices by having only a Virgin cable line so im going to get BT to come install a phone line.
Do i have to have a contract with BT for any length of time? If so does the contract have to include BB and telephone?

12 month min contract, you have to pay for installation too. £120 for both for me twice in the last twelve months, might be differnt now.

you get a phone, not BB, BB usually incurs it's own activation depending on ISP

If there's been a line installed previously you may be able to reactivate that with no installation charge.

Yeh its still £120, but ill save that in a year with BB prices alone.

Having a BT line, would that mean i can get any BB provider right from the start through the BT line?

I'm sure you can get away with the install charge some how. I read it no so long ago, see if i can dig the link up.

Me and the "ball n chain" were going to get BT, but decided against it in the end...

They first quoted us £120 to reactivate the line
Then we got a "special deal" for about £30, it is about on the internet i think

Then we went with tiscali, they did every thing for free and only pay £14 a month (12 month contract) and that includes BB. It is worth mentioning if you are in a certain area i think you can get it for £9.99, go to money saving expert or some thing and it will tell you how to get out of these little charges etc...

Yeah, but then you're stuck with Tiscali Broadband till the end of your contract. Hammering nails into my leg would be preferable to having a contract with Tiscali.

i am a virgin cable customer

have just been offered bt install at £29.99 but subject 18 month contract.

just looking at isp's before the move
