Am looking at upgrading my DFI SLI-D (Skt 939) and my processor. am looking at getting the E6600 and wanted to know a few things.

Firstly, What are the differences in the chipsets for the 775 Socket? (P35, 975X, 965P etc)

Does the CPU dictate which one is used or not?

Secondly I want to Oc it (Naturally), I have heard that the ASRock 4Core Dual VSTA board would be a good board for me as it will take my 184 pin DDR Ram. Has onyone had experianced overclocking on this board, are there any others that people can suggest?

Is it worth me buying new RAM and getting a different board for maximum overclocking?

Cheers

The chipset differences are massive - you really need to read up loads if you want to understand them fully.

The ASRock will get you a moderate overclock with DDR RAM, but if you're looking to go serious overclocking then get a P965, NVidia 650i Ultra or Intel P35 board and DDR2 RAM. Also be aware that the current Core2Duo's do not seem to overclock as well as the ones made pre-Christmas 2006, but there are still decent chips about if you're lucky.

I have that motherboard, and I reckon its a great tool to upgrade your old system and keep your ram. I have an ati x1950 pro, and 2x512MB ddr400 ram. at stock I got about 8000 3dmarks, and i've overclocked it by increasing the FSB from 200 to 290 and i'm just below 10,000 3d marks (this is 3dmark05 in 06 I got 6500 I think). I bought an el-cheapo CPU too, the intel e2160...I recommend a cpu with a high multiplier though, as the FSB doesn't go much higher than 290 I hear.

Dont skimp and save - DDR2 is dirt cheap at the moment - cant you afford 60quid for 2gigs worth ?

Best leave the Asrock alone and buy proper kit as I said it will only set you back 100quid on top of your original budget and what you'll get is faster RAM faster performance all round and a hella lot of potential with overclocking.

Well wanted to spend as little as possible, had a rough budget of £200. Think I'll wait until have moved in the new house and got everything I need then buy a completely new rig.

Cheers for your help guys
