Getting a new box with Virgin Media

Hey,

My Dad's got Virgin Media Multi Room. Downstairs he's got the silver V+ HD box but upstairs it's some god awful standard box which he's had for around 5years now (say that the V+ HD box is awful compared to Sky but it's 10x better than the one upstairs!). It's the slowest thing on the earth and freezes every now and then.

What are the chances of them changing this box for him and what are the chances of getting a HD V+ box for nowt? Anyone tried anything similar? What boxes do they give out for multi room nowadays?

they give out whatever box you ask for multiroom, silver v+hd you say? ive never seen a silver one, only black, theres 2 different types, SA and samsung, both black
you cant get v+ box anymore, only vhd and v+hd, if he orders a v+hd box, there will be an installation charge, normally 90 quid odd, its a rip off, its just for setting some options in the box, however, if you order just the standard v box, which is actually a vhd box, but without the hd channels enabled on the card, then you get the hdmi output and it upscales all sd channels which look nicer than scart on the old ones, just find a way of trashing the old v box and call them for a replacement, you will get a vhd box without the hd channels, and while hes at it he can request a samsung v+hd instead of the one in the living room if he complains the epg is slow and not responsive enough, and you can also use the excuse that you want to record radio shows that are on in the middle of the night, as only the samsung can do this

the samsun box is the one you want its pretty good. Just phone up faults and get an engineer out, the firt thing he will do is just change the box for you.

they dont replace boxes with samsung anymore, not since all the trouble they have had with some of them, they keep developing a fault in a lot of cases, they install the old SA ones now to avoid coming again, they told me this when they did it to me, i just phoned up and said i wanted another samsung, they were back next day with one, but said they dont usually do this unless you specifically ask for a samsung

My Dad's lazy though so will have to try and convince .

We had the original silver one, was when V+HD first came out and before they started charging extra if you wanted the box With HD ready rather than just for recording.

Try phoning em and just saying the secondary box has intermittent issues, locking up and they'll probably come out and replace with the current standard box which is I think the V+ HD Box with recording and HD disabled.

i used to work for virgin installing all their gubbins and yeah as Divine said the silver V+ boxes were the original ones.

best bet with your standard box would be to just phone them and say the on demand stuff never works properly, as it's rented equipment they'll just swap it out(eventually)
