less than 12 months ago i bought a seagate expansion 1.5TB external from cex. Ever since the day Ive had irt, it randomly clicks during use. At the beginning I thought it was because of its size, and / or external drives did it anyway (never had one before or that big)

I now know this is the 'seagate click of death', which has been evident from day one of using the drive.

can i get a refund? i really dont want anything else from cex. everything ive had from them has broke or is already broke when i get it home. Had an 8800 ultra from them before this, that had to be underclocked to use it without bluescreening.

I have to admit.....i thought that was a typo which is the only reason i came in the thread. Disapointed.

is it a retail product? should get more than 12 months for swap-out/replacement, doubt refund though?

my seagate 1.5tb clicks too.

The most annoying thing about it is it's name. If it's a soft c, then 'sex' - hard c, then 'kex'.

And the fact that you can't talk to a store over the phone, very annoying if wanting to find out about popping down to hand stuff in.

Doesn't every Seagate click and make noises, my Seagate 500GB 2.5" 7200 drive is down right awful, can't wait to change.

Not that the drive is failing etc, just the way it is.

I imagine cex stuff is just stuff that users know are on the way to failing so flog it in semi working condition before its finally knackered. Buy from there you buy crap.

if you google the seagate click of death there are several pages documenting it. drives start quiet, then begin to click, i can only imagine if i keep this one it will get worse and worse, then fail.

btw lads, i prefer to say 'see-e-ex' lol

You would be lucky to get a full refund , the chances are you would be offered a replacement or a partial refund if that isn't possible as you've had quite a lot of usage out of it. Repair is probably out of the question for an HD but you never know.

All Cex products come with a 12month warranty.

CeX offers a twelve [12] month warranty on all items except consumables. The CeX twelve [12] month warranty does not cover physical damage, water damage, or any damage caused by unlocking a mobile phone, and only covers software faults arising in the course of normal use. For further details on the conditions of the warranty, please contact us at [email protected] .

They are right buggers about refunds there, they will test it, say it works fine and is something you are doing causing it to click and send you on your way.

A friend of mine had hell trying to return a 360 there because it intermittently red ringed, they couldn't replicate the fault there so wouldn't refund/exchange

my Seagate 7200.11 500GB is just as silent as my Samsung 400GB and my 1.5TB Western Digital EcoGreen 5400rpm...

+1, they do test everything, but some stuff is hard to test in 30 mins (I sold some RAM there and you can only do one or two runs of memtest in the time they took).
