Getting a VFR750

I've ridden 30 miles home with an alarm going off when my first datatool malfunctioned and nobody batted an eyelid (I had to trace the immobiliser wire, which took all of ten minutes at the roadside, a thief would do it in less!) When it's been bunged in the back of a van it's game over no matter what alarm you've got fitted.

alarms are abit better now though, I had to remove a meta from my 12 and took 2hrs, 3 point immobilization all on black wires so you had to trace it all through loom.

I have 3 point on current meta on 10, plus the in built kwak immobilizer..

some chump will just throw it in van on day though I swear :(

From what i remember its a 1986 VFR750F So should be a D Reg.

May be old but its well kept and Im getting it free :D

cant go wrong and it'll run forever, gear driven cams, not like the poor VF750F, which blew up a lot due to fault with chain tensioner (my old mans did)

got a m8 with one of similar age, remember running it back to back with 2000 R1, and even after throttle to stop through some bendy roads he was still hanging in mirror on VFR, that says something.

Hey guys,

Just looking for a bit info here. i know if someone realy wants to nick your bike they will. but i was wanting to put a few deterents in their way.

Been looking at ground anchors and have come accross this one.

Brute Force

Are they any good?

After all it is just a deterent, they would have to get through 4 locks on the garage door and move my car before they get the bike, but when the cars not in its going to be a bit more simple. what you think?

Yes, a very good idea. Anything that stops the bike being lifted away is excellent.

Might be worth spending a little more and getting one that has hidden or rotating fittings though (hard to grind away). If you can dig down in your parking spot, the type you dig a hole for and concrete in are the best.

Certainly am m8, drop me an email on site and can cut you a deal for free P&P if your interested. Not sure on legality of the beacon though heh

Everything that gets you seen better is a good thing!

Eye i had seen one of those. Problem i have is it is a council garage so diging holes like a miner wouldnt go down well.i have seen ones that have a form o swivel idea, may be worth getting

Edit, Been looking at another kind same design and all, but they supply Ball bairings that you put in the alen key hole so you cant mut anything in, i would probably do this or round the alen key hole so its useless too.

Still needs an ignition barrell but isnt dear so will sort that soon.

Hasnt been started in 3 years new battery and vamoosh away she went, a bit lumpy at first but soon was sounding sweet

I used to always want one them VFR750 back in there day..(The white one was my favorite)

Can anyone comment on how good the 2 piston disc brakes are on an old VFR750 compared to later bikes with 4 pistons disc brakes ??

All i can say just now is pretty awesome lol, its Ceased on lol.

I haven't ridden it unfortunately, so couldn't comment on the breaking. Sounds lovely tho. Sorry pik isnt great, window behind bike was letting in to much light and was camera on ma phone

looks good, same as my work m8s

you might want to give it a full oil change / new filter also....

worth stripping brakes as well....

take off front calipers / pads (1 side at a time)
scrub up caliper pistons with toothbrush and brake cleaner
then gently pump each piston out with brake lever and push back in with fingers few times (make a wooden chock to wedge up pistons you not pumping so they don't pop out and don't pump the piston right out)

when reassembling use copper grease antisieze paste on back of pads / the slide pins (clean this up with ermery first) thats holds pads / all caliper bolts

will make a lot of difference to brakes as it's been sitting so long...
