Dont bother replacing the wing mate, its no where near bad enough
Yeah the 8v's are about 75bhp as agw says, as i say though even if its a 16v its going to feel woeful compared with a 2.0 mondeo, just warning you as to not to expect much.
Also how old is the last MOT? If recent you can be more confident that it will not fail on something irrelevant - if its the later computerised MOT you can plug the cert number onto www.motinfo.gov.uk and it will tell you about any advisories so you can be better prepared for what may fail. Personally I'd take it if she's ready to swap with some base unit you have lying around - don't even bother fixing the dent unless you really want to.
i say hit the wing with a hammer a few times to get most of the dint out and that pointy crease, then drive it, hell you dont even need to change the lights... ITS A CHEAP CAR dont be snob and just drive the thing.
and when your done with it, you'll get about £400 for it, oh and i think you have to state it was written off (so keep the pic to prove it).
I cant really see any damage to the headlight or indicator so Iam not sure why you would replace it. A bit of plastic missing on the side? That'd be 20-30 from a scrappy.
The wing will just unbolt quite easily, I did it recently myself to treat them for rust. You could then try knock it back into shape. Otherwise 20 for a replacement and 50 including a paint match is what I would expect.
Why does that need a VIC or anything really, I cant see anything wrong with it. Is there damage under the hood. ANyway, it looks a bargain. Check the fluids religiously when you run it
I just been round to start it up and have a good look under the bonnet. It looks ok but has been stood for over 3months so I imagine the oil is a bit sludgy and generally nasty. Also the battery could do with a charge and all of the fluids topping up.
The coolant is worryingly low and infact I thought there may be a leak or HG problem but couldn't find evidence of either.
Am I right in thinking that I cannot fill out the V5 untill it's had the VIC?
Therefore the car cannot legally be mine untill the VIC is complete?
Also, am I allowed to take it to the VIC place or does she have to?
It never ceases to amaze me what damage insurance companies write cars off for these days. I should take the car, it's a bargain! If it was closer than Bristol to me i'd seriously consider going and making her an offer if you don't want it .
Anyway, the dent is easily repairable as everyone's said. There won't be any structural damage, i've had cars in at work with a lot worse than that and they've been fine.
We've got a Mondeo at work in the same predicament. It needs a VIC check before we can get the logbook (as it's held at Swansea). It's had the work done and passed an MOT but they need it to have a check before they'll reissue the logbook. Anyone can take the car for the check, but you do have to ring them to book a time for it to be examined. It's around a £35 ish charge but don't forget to turn up as you'll get charged anyway .
Not sure how it works if she's got the logbook still but I assume if the insurance company's written it off then the logbook will be at Swansea, in which case, as I say, it'll need to be checked before you can have the logbook back and in your name.
When you say the coolant is low, how low is it? Any chance of a pic?
If it's clear and has signs of anti-freeze in it, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just top it up with a 50/50 mixture and see how it goes from there. Maybe run the engine for half an hour or so to warm it up and get the coolant and oil flowing.
If the HG is going, you'll see the dirty coolant or mayo in the oil.
