For this years season of Drag racing @ the pod

I was supposed to be there this weekend but due to the horrendous weather I thought i'd rather sit in, than waste £70 on tickets and camping to watch the track cleaning vehicles all day.. So I thought i'd go through some of last years main event pics and found a few I thought i'd post a few.
Hopefully i'll go on Monday as the weather looks a bit better then.. <fingers crossed>
Suprised how many keepers I ended up with considering 1/160sec @ 300mm, and most of these were taken as the cars were doing well over 200mph.

Processing:

Minor curve adjustment.
Splash of USM, 50/0.4/0, 40% fade on the luminance.
A tiny bit of + brightness.

I might go Monday too, if the weather is good. I bet half the country will be there too if thats true!

Its looking quite likley i'll go as the weather is looking substantially better, we'll see nearer the time..
My fave spot is right in the corner of the last stadium, I'll either be stood on one of the pub tables or a half height step ladder, i'll have my 300mm/MkIII and a 5D with 70-200, and i'll be wearing a big pair of Peltor ear defenders - do say hello if you go! :cool:

I tend to go for the earplugs route - my bro gave me some Mclaren Mercedes ones that I'm dying to try out lol!

Its mainly a summer thing, there are several "main events" which are well worth attending, these are:

Easter thunderball <currently on, weather a bit dodgey>
FIA Main event, may bank holiday <I think>
Summer nationals, June
FIA Euro finals September
National finals, September.

Everything at pod has an open paddock and you can get lots of shots of the cars being worked on, anything you like really, just don't go if it looks like it might rain as nothing runs if there is even a speck of water on the strip, the nitro cars make around 8000BHP, and run to over 300mph in 4.5 seconds so you do get your fair share of "issues" lol..

Looks like you've managed to capture some rear tyre wrinkelage in pic 3! Impressive to think a tyre can wrinkle like that.

I've got some more pics which show the tyre almost square on a topfuel launch, they're bolted to the rims :eek:

I hope this May is better than last years, we camped for the whole 4 days in 1ft of water throwing eggs at a BBQ also full of water, Friday was a whole half days racing, after that it was rained off..
I'll definitley be there in May camping for the whole event, there are a few more cars knocking around this year, including a new(ish) Nitro FC i've not seen before which is almost entirely black which a huge skull on the rear wing, definitley want some shots of that :cool:
