Right… My mates have started getting bikes and going riding again and I now seem to be the odd one out. So I’ve decided to give in to peer pressure and get another bike.

I sold my orange P7 about 8 years ago so I’ve been out of the loop for some time now and haven’t got a clue whats cool and crap now.

I’ve set my self a budget of about 500-ish quid.

I’ve been looking at 3 bikes so far and as I said I’m that far out of touch now I don’t know if their any good.

2006 GIANT XTC SX

2006 KONA HOSS

2007 Specialized Hardrock Pro

What you guys think?? Are they any good? Or would you get something else?

A 2007 P7 is around the £800 mark, so you might be able to get a 2006 model around your budget?

The mbuk one is ok, but the average age on there seems around 15 so you have been warned!

I'd go for the spesh myself, but then I'm biased, as I've got the 2003 hard rock pro myself. Not the lightest thing out there, but lovely to ride.

Also, check out the GT avalanche. They seems to have a good spec for little cash.

It may be worth getting one for around £350, then getting some good front forks for another £150 such as MX comps. :)

EDIT: Love the sig... brings back memories of kickstart disks on my A1000. ;)

Narh, the Hardrock is the entry Specialized bike, and the pro is their top end model. The XTC SX is the mid level / middle model of the XTC range, and the XTC range uses the same frame for bikes for £1000, which means you have a lot more room for upgrades and more potential than the Hardrock, the equivalent Specialized bike to the XTC is the Rockhopper, which is the model up from the Hardrock.

GT Avalanche 1.0 2006 - won 10/10 in Mountain Bike Rider. Top spec, crap pedals!

Here's mine!

Go second hand, either that or get a 2006 Specialized Rockhopper Disc for £550

Second hand opens up many doors for you, I picked up a 2004 Specialized Enduro Expert for £660 - 5" of travel at each end, LX/XTR mix etc. Total bargain, and a fantastic bike. For £500 you'd be able to get at least a grand of bike if you're prepared to get maybe a 2005 model or similar.

the Hoss is a big mans bike, built for ex marines/rugby players etc, unless your one of those, I suggest you avoid it for one of the standard range konas.

We'll I’ve got one!!

It not quite as good looking as the other bikes people suggested

I decided to get myself a cheapo second hand bike just in case if I end up losing interest and it ends up being part of the part of the garage furnisher.

Well here it is... 100quids worth of Orange C16R. It's nearly 10 years old but hardly ever been used its mint.

What you lads think worth the 100quid??

Mmmm just been informed from another forum that even though it is mint and hardly used I have in fact been ripped off:( apparently its worth no ware near 100 quid not even close

That's a good reliable beginers bike. It is good to get back into biking and will take some rough treatment. I do not think you got ripped off at all, 100 quid is not a lot.

Well I officially got back in the saddle today for the first time in about 8 years :) . I’ve done about 20 miles down the canal no real hills or anything. I’m surprised that I don’t feel completely knackered :p . Don’t know what my legs will feel like tomorrow after a nights sleep :( .
