Hey guys, for the past couple of days i've been trying to fix a friends laptop.
Everytime when it boots up to the Windows XP screen, its just blue screens on me and i keep on receiving a message saying "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME".

I tried re-installing windows, went to the recovery console and entered all the commands to diagnose and fix the boot sector (fixboot, fixmbr, chkdsk etc)
but it still didn't fix the problem. I came across a forum where some guy was having the same problem, and he received a reply that who should run chkdsk /p, chkdsk /r and fixboot in this order and apparently that fixed his problem, but it still didn't fix mines :(

I don't have much information on my friends laptop, just that he has windows xp, 2gig memory, and intel centrino cpu.
Would appreciate any help since this is really bugging me out.

If chkdsk/r doesn't fix it then there may be a hardware fault. Run a HDD diagnostic on the drive to check for bad sectors and faults.
I have seen this on about 50 pcs and chkdsk/r fixed all of them.

can't actually load to windows since it just blue screens while it loads up.
tried reformatting like 8-9 times but that didn't fix the problem.
Could it be a virus or that the hardrive is dying?
