do you guys do this?

put in some fuel, then when you hit you desired limit you stop and extend the hose as much as possible so any fuel left in there will drop out.

lol i must admit i do this but i see many people who do not, must leave about 20 pence worth of fuel in the hose it self :D:D

scrooge i know but it has to be done in this day and age!

I do this. I want what I'm paying for! :p

I'll admit for the sake of 20p in petrol it is petty! But then, when I do fill up at Tesco I often get told "every little helps".

I'm pretty sure the cut off is at the handle so it makes no difference if you lift the hose or not.

now this is something i never thought of, but you can see the fuel drip from the handle after you stop, so it must be coming from somewhere

This really, i'm quite sure you only get a tiny amount flowing out, not a whole hose worth.

Still the thought of some of you lot flapping a hose around the petrol station does make me laugh.

I sometimes lift the hose up at the end but die a little inside each time I do. I'm fairly sure that what dribbles out is only residuals from the very end of the hose after the switch, certainly not a whole hose's worth.

I don't do this, but then nor do I trash the pump dispenser about against the sides of the fuel spout like crazy, trying to catch every last drip.

Drives me up the wall when people do this.

A wee shake is fair enough, but going mental with it is silly.

I usually give it a tap out the way out.

Then usually hit the nozzle on the side of the petrol cap which somehow dislodges a load of fuel and deposits it all over the cap area and down my paintwork

A mechanical valve in the pump handle detects this change of pressure and closes, preventing the flow of fuel

This is the auto cutoff due to pressure system when filling the car, so by raising the hose you get 0 extra fuel, the only extra you can get is a tiny amount between the valve and the nozzel.

Yes the remaining drips that are in the nozzle (beyond the cuttoff in the handle).

Just tap the nozzle against the filler hole a few times.

Not that it makes 0.00001miles difference mind.

on another note, the amount of fuel on the handle is self is ridiculous sometimes,

them disposable gloves are a god send, id rather not have a steering wheel smelling of petrol

I give it a little tap at the end, but more so I don't dribble petrol everywhere rather than saving money.
