Anyone done this before and can advise a decent method?

Looked at the ICE trains and think it was about 129euro, found a flight for 79euro and currently have no idea about buses. Bit weary as would want to travel on a sunday and dont know the availability of buses on that day or length of the journey etc.

Any help much appreciated!

No way would I want to get a bus, it's about 320 miles - would be like going from London to Newcastle. For that price I'd not consider anything except flying. I travelled from Munich to Frankfurt quite a bit and always flew when possible.

I did that when I was interrailing. Obviously the price wasn't an issue as it was included in our ticket but the train was very spacious and comfortable. Scheduled time was less than 4 hours. We stopped off at a random city though as I got hungry. But the train was a perfectly nice place to be. We took some sandwiches, a pack of cards and some beers and had plenty of room (even in a 2 person seat) to play cards happily and relax. I'm 6'1 too.

I was more looking for a cheaper method if anyone knew of any other possibilities. Sounds like flying is the way to go unless I can find a cheap way to get that train. I miss asia :(

Sounds like you need the Mitfahr-Zentrale http://www.citynetz-mitfahrzentrale.de/ Basically it's a series of offices where motorists who have spare car seats can look for people who want lifts. I used it a few years ago, I think a price for fuel is agreed beforehand and you have someone to talk to for x hours. Would be cheapest method save hitch-hiking I imagine.

This might be a bit late if you wanted to travel this weekend, but you can get a Schönes Wochenende ticket for €35 which will allow you to use any of the regional trains. It'll take you most of the day and a few changes to get from Munich to Berlin, but it'll probably be your cheapest option.

You can find more info here: http://www.toytowngermany.com/wiki/Schönes_Wochenende_Ticket

p.s. hello everyone

Hey evilpaul thanks for that! Doing some research for when I go in September so that was really helpful, cheers man!

Wow that's good - I'm sure that ticket only used to cover Bayern when I lived over there, although it was 25 euros back then.

The Schönes Wochenende has covered travel in all of Germany for as long as I can remember, or at least when I lived in Munich (first lived there in about 2000).

You might be getting it confused with the Bayern ticket, which is the regional ticket that only covers Bavaria.

If you can get 5 mates together then they really are a bargain.

Yeah thinking back now I'm sure I got a schoenes wochenende ticket to Austria a few times with mates. I tended to travel south rather than north so maybe I was just assuming it would only work in Bayern. Fantastic deal though, we used to go to Garmisch and Berchtesgaden on them.

I flew from Munich to Berlin. Everything else took much longer and was much more expensive. Flew with GermanWings If I remember rightly.
