Help and advice desperately need here! :p

Me and the missus got married on a serious budget. It was a registry office affair with none of the trimmings - it was "I do" and outta there :p My brother used to be a wedding photographer, so that didn't cost us anything. We then hired a room at a nice hotel down the road and just had a nice meal with family and friends. The wife worked in a clothes shop at the time so she got a nice dress for pretty much nothing. I wore my one and only suit :D I can't remember the exact cost, but it was peanuts and took about 5 mins to organise. And it was perfect.

EDIT: Congrats btw :)

Congatulations!

Even though I am married (just short of three years. May the 4th 2003) I have no idea how it got organised. I have a feeling that both sets of parents were involved heavily.

I took charge of the suit hire and making sure they gave us the right steam train to pul the wedding train.

As far as I know the following was needed:

stag night x 1
hen night x 1
Organise registrar to turn up at Midland Steam Railway
Organise said even including colours, disco carriage, number of dinner guests
wedding dress
suits for best man, bridegroom etc
invites
flowers
menu
photographs
Fred Dibnah
and so on...

Yes it was expensive, but if you do it at the registry office I am sure it can be done for a reasonable price.

Oh, and did anybody spot that May the 4th is a Star Wars gag. May the 4th be with you? Yes we chose the date because of that!

Loooook, you see, at this MAGNIFICENT steam engine.

Not, not really but he would have been a gold mine of knowledge about all things steam, he may have been able to tell me things about the engine that pulled my wedding train.

Al I know is that it was a 0-6-0T 3F (Jinty) 47357 - cool!

Glad he wasn't there or I would have been insanely jealous. Fred rocked. RIP.

We got married in registry office and had drinks for the guests in the local pub (hehe 30 guests queued outside for 10 minutes as we were too early for opening!!), just gave them £100 and they opened a load of bottles of wine. In the evening 10 of us went out for a meal which my parents paid for. The photos were taken by my wifes work mate who did it for free including 3 copies of the photos! I guess it cost us total £200 including the registry office fees. We went to Edinburgh for a week for our honeymoon which probably cost around £400 including accomodation, food & drink.

Went to Amsterdam for stag do for a weekend. Not sure on costs, probably about £400 all told.

So not exactly big budget but we had just the perfect day! (and the stag do was a blast :D )

Actually it was just good lukc that it fell on May the 4th. We wanted the closest date to May the 1st or the Pagan festival of Beltane to apease the old gods.

The whole Victorian steam railway wedding was the coolest thing ever...<corny>best day of my life</corny>
