Will most likely be the Wildfire (possibly the Desire but depends on how generous T-Mobile are feeling).

It will be running Android 2.1 I believe (possibly 2.2).

Any tips on getting the most out of an android phone/Battery life etc? It looks like juicedefender could be quite useful!

If you cant get the Desire then go for the Legend if they will much better than the Wildfire

The Wildfire is basically an underpowered small version of the Desire, you definitely want to get a Desire if you have the option.

You simply cant compare the two :(

A link someone elso posted today...

Android battery life: how to improve it
IDK, a lot of those tips are common sense and/or a litte extreme, no gmail? 0% brighness?! No thanks, mine is generally at about 50%. I guess every phone is different, I remember having big problems with my G1 battery lasting a day with a little use but my Galaxy Portal is pretty robust, from unplugging it on a morning to going to bed on a night I have rarely ever seen it below 50%, thought whether that's a true 50% is another matter... I guess it also matter as if above you're a newcomer to Android rather than being a fossil who had 1.0. Wouldn't say I disagree with the advice it's just a bit all over the place. As they said themselves at the beginning you don't want to be sacrificing all those bells and whistles in the first place.

Best tips I can give on that front are:
* Screen brightness 50% or less unless you're outside in bright light
* As in the post use a widget to switch GPS/WIFI/BT off when you don't need them, there's no real need to have them on all the time.
* Kill tasks, on both android phones I've had killing tasks and stopping them starting up with the phone have increased performance and increased battery life.
* Switch off network location and only use GPS when you need to

If you need any app/widget recommendations I can do that too.

Sorry OP for hijacking the thread but these chaps have just dealt me a crushing blow. I was all set to order an HTC Wildfire up until about 6 minutes ago.

OK, so now I need a Desire. No deals really jump out at me though - all around £25 per month on the tariff I need [about 300 mins/txts, unlimited net]. Unless someone knows different?

And stocks seem to be really low everywhere too. I could do with one ASAP.

Go and look at Mobilephonesdirect and Mobiles.co.uk

I think both have stock and they will have the deal you require ;)

T-Mobile don't do the Legend and I'm not switching networks as none of the others can get anywhere near T-Mobiles tariffs (especially on HTC phones)

Thanks everyone else for their tips (except those that said get a desire, that doesn't count. I know it's a better phone but I'm not paying an extra £10 a month for one when I need to cut my mobile phone bill down).

Instead of getting the Wildfire i'd see if you can get a Hero for cheaper as it has the same spec then just root it. Plus it looks nicer

The Hero has a screen with double the resolution, but less RAM than the Wildfire. See below for a direct comparison. The 2.1 update for the Hero is out in Taiwan (available now for rooted phones) and should only be weeks away from a UK/European release.

I would take the Hero (which I own) for the screen over the Wildfire.
