Had a touch since the 3rd Gen was released. So I know what to expect from the OS however, is there anything to know regarding data usage. I'll be on a 500mb per month contract I was wondering about push notifications I take it these are only a couple of kbs at most. Does the phone automatically track 3G data usage or will I need an app?

You can check cellular usage by going Settings>General>Usage>Cellular Usage, and then it tells you amount of data sent, and amount of data received.
You can reset the statistics every month so you can track your monthly amount used.

Thanks for the replies.... can you set it to give a warning at a threashold?

I'm presuming it switches the 3G off as soon as it connects to wifi?

With regards to Wi-Fi, it's worth noting that Wi-Fi turns "off" when the phone is sleeping, Wi-Fi is disconnected after a short period of time. This happens even when 3G is turned off. There are apps such as Insomnia which can change this behaviour, though exactly how well it works I'm unsure.

Apps like Onavo allegedly can reduce data usage, though again, not sure how well these applications work in the real world (they do apparently work well).

I got it !

Black 32 GB I had a touch like i said but the screen is way better on the phone itself. At any angle it looks crisp and sharp.

Still have to get my head around messaging as there is no longer an inbox and sent box lol.

I got the 500mb package and already browsed etc but it doesn't use much.

I keep my phone on 3G, and watch videos occasionally, browse a good bit. For some odd reason I use hardly any data (like 140MB or something like that in the last month).

Just keep an eye on it under General > Usage, and you should be absolutely fine.

Now had it for nearly a week and the usage is only 22MB despite me using it out and about and at work.... didn't think I would use so little.
Have to say I love it.

I think all the networks now have an app which shows you your monthly data usage. I find 500mb enough. Watching a lot of videos can use it up faster and I've known a couple of people who get themselves into the habit of downloading 1-2 apps most days at work just to have a look at them. Even if they are 30mb apps, it won't take long to reach your limit that way. Also, never click update all unless you are on wifi:p
