Getting my RAM to run at 1066MHz

I hate to hijack but i was just about to post a similar thread as ive got some kingston pc-2 8500 arriving soon lol

I have a gigabyte DS3P motherboard currently running geil ultra ram pc2-6400 ,running at a speed of 400mhz (x9)

now im abit thick when it comes to RAM so how do i get it running at 1066, do i also have to set it too 533 ? if so do i have to lower the cpu multiplier which is set to 9 right now ? because that increase is seriously going to overclock my CPU isnt it ? also do i need to adjust my "System Memory Multiplier" which is set to 2.00 i think

any advice would be helpfull :)

I had to set mine in the Bios to 1067Mhz to get it to work, that is on an Asus M3A79T Deluxe board though with Corsair memory.

AYe I think if you set it too 533mhz at 1:1 you'll seriously stretch that CPU at 9 multi, lowering it, if possible will alleviate this, but then I think you put the strain on the MCH? increasing ram and MCH voltages might work, or the ram might not like that high a FSB

I might be wrong though.

well 533mhz RAM using a 1:1 divider and using a 9x multi would put your CPU at 4.8GHz :p

sorry i got my details wrong, the multi is at 8 lol

"400mhz x 8" thats an overclock to 3.2ghz

and the divider is set to 2.0

Just realized my cpu has a 10.5x multiplier on it (motherboard did it automatically apparently). Could that be whats preventing me from running the ram at 1066mhz?

Ok, i realized that it needs to have the 10.5 multiplier to run at 2.1GHz?

Although the CPU fan seems to be working over time when its set to that..

I'm downloading chipset drivers now should take 10 hours ... or so because speed seems limited to 10kbps or less.
