Getting my VM network access to host

I've got a large Acronis backup file (Acronis is like an enterprise version of Ghost) which I want to restore onto a VM. I've installed and run VMWare and booted from the Acronis restore disk which works just fine. It now wants me to provide it with the backup image to restore from. The problem is that the image file is just over 4GB and I can only write it to a UDF DVD rather than an ISO which Acronis won't read (having set my VM to read the host's DVD drive).

The image file itself is obviously in Acronis' own format and if I could network my VM to my host machine, I would hope Acronis could then load it.

Acronis has a facility to specify network settings but what do I give it? It can surely only access the virtual adaptor providing by the VM, so how do I set up VMWare to give the VM access across the network to the host computer?

Are there any easy to use guides out there?

setup the vm to use bridged networking. then you can use an ip in the same range as your real pc and it'll just work. or if you have a dhcp enabled server or router on your network, you don't need to do a thing - the vm will get it's ip from that. :)

It appears to be working now. My network connection under VMWare is set to "Host-only" which is the private network shared with the host. From the Acronis software running on the VM I was then able to access the shared documents folder on the host so I could then start restoring from the backup images. I've got to get used to using the VMWare stuff though because it seems to be so useful.
