bloody EMA, what a load of ****

Helps what are perhaps traditionally disadvantaged people to better themselves in terms of education and the ability to get through it.

Its other situations where there are people at college driving around in there own cars going out every other night etc etc and on £30 a week ema

That would indeed suck, is it not income assessed though, i'm pretty sure your parents need to be earning a certain ammount to be eligible.

In my experience, EMA was a good thing in that it encouraged many people who were otherwise planning to drop out of school to stay on for sixth-form.

Precisely why it is a BAD thing. The country doesn't need EVERYONE receiving education, most of whom don't want it or aren't capable of it. There's no point in educating everyone. The country needs dustbin men, plumbers, electricians, builders, bankers etc - not a bunch of academics.

I was backlogged 8 weeks worth of EMA so if you apply (phone them up, it's easier to talk to someone than explain it in a letter) and explain your situation what they'll do is then (once your on EMA) is give you a form which you'll then take to your tutor, they'll sign it saying that you have had 100% attendance, and then just simply take it back to your EMA section in your college.
Quality. Really helped me. :)

Thanks a lot.

Hence why its being pitced at £30 though, its 100% foolish to sit through courses if your not going to complete them, you could be earning a whole heap more elsewhere whilst learning new skills, nothing is fool proof and there will allways be people who exploit it, if people are going to make mistakes theres not much the government can do.

I honestly swear to you if there was a guaranteed way that only the poor received EMA then I would not have a problem with it, even if it was £50 a week.

The reason EMA drives me crazy is because I goto a public school and believe me there are loads of people who receive it who get picked up in Porsches every afternoon.

****** me off!

We're not saying it shouldn't be moderated properly, we're saying it should still be there as it does benefit some people. You seem to be completely against because of some people.

It's a larger slice of the cake than you would think.

And anyway, it's natural for me to be jealous that some of my mates are getting £30/week for doing the same thing as me.

A good mate of mine gets payed £30 a week EMA. Thing is though, his parents split up years ago and he lives with his dad. His dad earns a fair bit doing restoration work on old buildings and gives my mate £20 a week pocket money on top of his EMA. He put on the EMA form that he lives with his mum (who earns a pitance from the council). I think this is just plain abuse of the system.

My parents are opening a deli in Buckingham within the next month or so after being unemployed for a few years (old man was involved in a serious accident) hopefully their business will do well and I won't get EMA anymore!

just rang them and a guy that sounded (and acted) like he just woke up. he said that EMA will be backdated to the point that the application was made and thats it :(
