I've tried all sorts of things (not yet resorted to cillit bang) to try and get rid of the smell of smoke from my latest banger (Volvo 440). The previous owner was a smoker, and judging by the smell never opened the windows.

The seats etc are now fine after lots of spray stuff, but the dash and steering wheel still smell of smoke.

If can smell smoke on my hands after driving for a bit. I've tried dash cleaner, flash wipes etc, but it still smells.

What other tricks are there for getting rid of this smell?

I use pledge clean and dust (yeah the stuff for houses!) in my car from time to time and it seems to remove the smell of smoke.

Or you could wear some fetching string back leather driving gloves. ;)

Cut an onion in half and leave it in the car overnight.

I don't know if it works but my folks used to do that to clear the smell of smoke in the house after partys
