Getting rid of the dust

hair dryer...had to use it to get the Tuniq Tower backplate off my old motherboard (due to the superadhesive it comes with) and noticed it was quite effective at blowing the dust out of everything.

I usually take out the GPU and stick a hairdryer down the fan at either end a few times, which results in most of the crap coming out. Then i get a paintbrush and try and sweep most of the harder stuff out from inside, followed by another blowing of the hairdryer. I find vacuums to be pretty ineffective to be honest.

I also do this technique to the PSU and CPU cooler. :)

Paintbrush as mentioned above (soft hair, and make sure it's not one of those that have a tendency to shed hairs).

Compressed air from a can.

Compressed air from a compressor (neighbour)

Compressed air at the local service station (that got me some strange looks !)

Only thing to watch out for with a compressor is some types can spray out a small amount of moisture (compressing air with high moisture content can lead to slight condensation). Also don't run a compressor with cold air onto heated components (like a compressor outside in winter , and you just took your machine offline to clean it out - you can also burn your fingers on the heatsinks)

See I do believe in Health and safety.
