Getting scammed on eBay?

Just thought I'd update the thread, Paypal emailed me on the 3rd with this.

'As you know, we were recently notified that one of your buyers filed a
chargeback with their card issuer. One of the unique benefits of using
PayPal is that we help you fight unwarranted chargebacks and attempt to
recover your funds.

Usually the funds associated with a chargeback are temporarily held until
the card issuer makes its decision.

Because you followed the guidelines of the Seller Protection Policy,
though, PayPal will cover the amount of the chargeback.'

congrats mate - I'll be reading the Seller Protection Policy carefully so I know next time I sell.

Actually PayPal/eBay are pretty good at honouring the seller protection agreement... so long as you fulfill all the criteria. Always read the agreement!

The OP is lucky/wise that he sent it Special Delivery as its tracked... Recorded is NOT reliable and doesn't always update. If he'd sent it regular post i.e. without tracking or insurance he'd have lost the case and his money for sure.

N.B. mobile phones, games consoles, anything thats valuable and sought after is a mecca for scammers, low value, obscure items rarely attract their attention.

Who ultimately loses out in this?

PayPal will use the tracking info to prove it was sent to the credit cards registered address. So will the CC company refuse to honor the chargeback with the customer?

Also, if you were the purchaser of an Iphone on ebay and the seller sent you a box with a brick inside it, how on earth do you prove it to your CC company.

And yet another angle, if you bought an Iphone received it, claimed it was faulty, sent it back under PayPal's buyer protection policy, but sent back a brick, how does the seller prove this to PayPal.

Ebay is a minefield really.
