I've had sky installed in the past , I'm curious how can I tell my 2 boxes are brand new and not refurbished as its a lot of money we are paying out each month and I've had experiences with dodgey installers trying to rob my boxes in the past or charging me for stuff I don't need.

I also have a sky dish installed that I bought myself from amazon that I don't want him touching as its my own property so I want him to put his own dish up for me as its included in the price

what a weird way of going about things.
So you have a dish already but you want to go through possibly hours of bumming around to get another dish up that costs about £20? really? whats the point.......

a box is a box - refurbed or not its been sent back to the factory to be inspected, stripped, clean and repackaged - put simply you wont really be able to tell the difference, the sky boxes are horrible anyway whether its refurbed will be the least of your problems.

well figure this out I BUY A DISH FOR MYSELF MY PC with quad LNB and we are getting 2 boxes installed one for downstairs one for upstairs. I dont see why when ive paid for all my gear I paid for my sat finder my connectors and socket to put them up and my sat cable

Don't worry about a refurb'd box, it should be as good as new.

When the installer turns up just explain you want your existing kit left as is, it won't be a problem.

Pace TDS850NB were the best sky HD box available, you can pick them up second hand on a well known auction site.
I have replaced all my original sky HD boxes with Pace.

CT85: Councils like you to have only one dish, not exceeding more than 90 cm in diameter, but where I live, there houses with two or three stuck on the wall/chimney.

Also I'm used Sky zone 2 (80cm x 60cm) dish, slightly larger than the zone 1 dish (59cm x 43cm), but it gives you better reception when using octo LNB, & signal is less affected by rain squall.

Pace boxes are no longer made. He'll get an Amstrad DRX 890 box which are generally faultless, fast and quiet.

Which is a shame, as I consider them better than the Amstrad's.
I have had Sky replace two, could be three of these Amstrad boxes, that is why I sourced secondhand Pace boxes & fitted them with 1tb & 2tb hard drives.

MissChief: Sorry I didn't make myself clearer.

Pace boxes were actually part of a recall a few months after they came out due to wiring issues inside the box!

You have a good memory, that was around 2008-2009:confused:, Pace confirmed that the assembly flaw didn't pose a safety risk.
My Pace was on the recall list, but I never bother as Sky engineer tried to fob me off with a replacement box, a inferior Thompson one I think.:( & the Pace box is still working.

That makes no sense at all. so if he comes round and puts another dish up what are you using the old one for? or is it there to look nice because you paid a small amount of funds for your own dish?

I would hate to see how much your going to flip out when you move house.
