Getting the max from my components

Some Kingston RAM automatically applies XMP to make it run at its rated speed, but the vast majority don't. So go into the BIOS and check the frequency, and apply XMP if needed.

I would new to the overclocking scene, will there be noticeable improvements to performance by doing these things ?

In general, not much. Usually for benchmarks. But the way I think of it is - if you can safely set a higher speed, then that higher speed will be there and ready for whatever can make use of it.

Voltages and frequency will scale down a lot when not required. So can't really think of a negative.

Overclocking skylake is unbelievably easy. That cooler allows for a decent overclock.

It's extra horse power for nothing. really no downsides as long as it's sensible.

Have you installed all your gigabyte motherboard software?

Interesting read, thanks for the guide as well stu . So in your opinion guys I should overclock this system and see how I get on.

It's certainly worth experimenting. Even a mild overclock will give you a little performance boost.

Make sure you set XMP for your memory to get the full benefit of the 3000 Mhz rating. The guide that stulid linked explains how to do this in your motherboard's BIOS.
