I'm normally into horror titles but everything I come across recently seems really dull.

The last game to really get me interested was Minecraft and I was obsessed with L4D2 for years. Now nothing I venture into seems interesting. I want something fresh and innovative but can't seem to come across anything. Does anyone have some suggestions?

Sleeping Dogs,
Deus Ex games,
League of Legends,
GTA 4,
Terraria,
Both Alan Wake's,
Metro 2033 and last light.

there aint nothing much around, just find something else to do and game far less....Dishonored/Deux Ex, yea they're great but you'll get bored quickly.

i cant drag myself to buy Metro/Crysis 3, not enough replay value, i'm suspicious of these types of games nowadays, i'd rather try Stealth from now on or something that taxes by brain cells.....Splinter cell or Penumbra

maybe give this a try :
http://www.rawbots.net/page/rawbots

its in early access so not all fetures are enabled / available but seems to have a lot of potential

A universe where you can play with amazing robots that are designed, built and even programmed by you.

Everything is a robot, doors, roads, walls, bridges, safes, traps, turrets, surveillance systems, etc. Build forts, towers and architect impressive structures to protect your planets and resources. You may play solo or with friends to infiltrate, conquer planets and gather resources.

Traditional keyboards and mouse can be used along with midi devices, gamepads, iOS and Android devices. Create your own input setups and master your designs, whether it is controlling a huge robot or entire armies of relentless minions.

The Rawbots universe has a unique set of matter, energy and physics laws. These laws are engineered to serve up fun emergent gameplay that is different every time you play. Everything you would expect from a sandbox game and more. We are taking this to the next level with gameplay that truly emerges beyond imagination and defined contextually by the type of robots you build. On one planet you might experience a first person shooting experience, go into a space battle in 3rd person, and down into an RTS offensive on another planet.

a big +1 for Faster than light. its only $5 at good old games right now: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/faster_than_light
I got it a few days ago and then that entire day disappeared. Check out nerdcubed's first video of it to see what its like

Also +1 for kerbal space program. it might still be on offer from steam but if not get it from the kerbal space program store (since it costs less when there arent steam sales and the devs get more of the money because steam doesnt take a cut). Its another game I poured a lot of time into when i got it. its very mod friendly as well which helps for the replay value

Branch out to new types of game, I'm loving the smaller games KSP, don't starve and other stuff. I used to be pretty much just FPS.

Looks remarkably similar to a game I played many moons ago called Sundog. Is there any link between the two?

Not a clue, but if Sundog is even half as good as FTL then I fear for my degree :p

*edit*
A quick youtube tells me my degree is safe. I see what you mean about the games looking similar though and you definitely weren't kidding about many moons go - it was released in 1986
