Hi guys. I am getting married in May and was thinking of having a poem printed off and displayed on a table with some flowers for those who cannot be there with us,.

My mum, dad and auntie all died in the same car accident when I was 7 and obviously wont be there to see us wed. I have had a few ideas on something to write but this is the one that I feel is the best. It might need a little more work but what do you think of it.

Ideas welcome of course:)

Mum Dad and Auntie

You look down on us both now we are wed
you don't need to give us a tear to shed

A smile and 'Good Luck' is what we want
from you, Mum, Dad and favourite Aunt.

From now on forward our family starts,
you all shall be for ever in our hearts.

I need a closing and cant think of one that works with it. Any ideas guys?

A newer version..

You look down upon us both now we are wed,
you don't need to give us your tear to shed.

A smile and 'Good Luck' is all we want,
from you my Mum, Dad and favourite Aunt.

From now on forward our family starts,
you all shall be for ever in our hearts.

Having you not here will not sadden our day,
your love and my memories are here to stay.

Personally if I were in your shoes, it would just be a quick line at the beginning of the speech. It's a bit morbid personally, it's supposed to be a happy day after all.

Nvm, I'm a ****. Completely misread the op.

All the best to both of you, I'm sure your family will be smiling upon you two:)

Would have to agree.

Your loss, in names, would mean little to the people attending ( given that you were 7, so i'll assume that they would have never met them )

I would remember them, with part of the opening speech.

' I lost my parents when young, but they would be smiling down from heaven today............................................ '

Tricky subject to comment on, i wish you all the best.

Sad story OP :( congrats on getting married, though :)

Can't offer much on the poem, but I like what you've come up with.

(re some of the above comments: I would imagine there are family members attending who knew the deceased, and plenty of others who know the back-story of their friend whose wedding they are at. And it's hardly morbid to think of your departed parents on your wedding day!)

I think that some lines in your speech would be better than a printed poem.

All the best to both of you on your big day. :)

I appreciate the comments about using my speech instead but I am not really doing a speech so to speak. I have no family going to the wedding but the missus close family will be there, the majority of guests are from my work and a few friends pretty much everyone knows the past about me and my loss. Hence the little memorial table. No one really thinks its morbid etc. and actually think its a good idea.

Thanks for your replies anyway, but is there anything I can add or approach it from a different angle?

You look upon us now on the day that we are wed,
Love, happiness and joy are the only tears to be shed.

A celebration and 'Good Luck' is all that we could need,
from you my Mum and my Dad and our favourite Aunty indeed.

From now on the future of our collective family starts,
You all shall always be in our memories and our hearts.

Having you here with us has brightened our special day,
Your love and our fond memories will remain forever with us to stay.

My attempt at poem jazz!

 Nice!

Oh wait it is for people that couldnt make it.

change the last bit to er...

We're sorry you couldnt be with us, on our special day,
We hope your love and our fond memories will be shared in its own way.

Something like that.

Completely mis-read your post last night and thought that this would be on all the tables, please accept my apologies.

A memorial table sounds like a great idea to remember your loved ones.

Between yourself and Tom0, looks like you have got it covered :)
