I received an invite from Getty Images via flickr earlier offering to license some of my photos for commercial use with them.

I've signed up and am now a Getty Images contributor.

Has anyone else done this and made money from your work through Getty?

They took 5 from me which should be on sale soon with their stock. Another image has a person in it (my daughter) and i need to send them a copy of a release form with her signature before that can go on sale!

Don't think i'll be giving up the day job anythime soon though :)

I know lots of people on flikr who were contacted by getty - don't hold your breath waiting for a sale.

And what's a lot, 1,2,10, 50,100.

Also do they tell you if they sold any or not and all of them?

Really just being asked is nice, I have been approached to use an image of mine on a DVD and it makes me feel great even if nothing much comes of it.

Why's that then?

I've been on Getty's books for about 3 years. Never sold anything! Tbh, if you want to see a steady income come from this sort of thing you really need to concentrate on stock photography. Think about the sort of thing that would be used for magazines, adverts etc and then shoot literally thousands of shots on that subject. The pro stock houses produce millions of shots each year covering just about everything you can think of.

I'm not saying that you won't ever sell enything. I hope you do, but the odds are fairly small I'm afraid.

Yeah already knew this would be the case. Not really looking to cash in, just wondered who else had stuff on Getty and what their experiences were.
