We've been together nearly 4 years now and I've always had decent ideas for presents before, but this time it just doesnt seem to be happening! Her birthday's in a week, anyone have any good ideas? She'll be 20, and budget is probably about £50. (Havnt found a summer job yet :()

A weekend away?

It's hard to suggest a present for somebody we don't know, we can only give you generic suggestions which she might not really appreciate.

You really need to get her something that you know will mean something to her, something personal.

Well what interests does she have, what does she enjoy, does she like going out for a meal, flowers, chocolates, a days rally driving, hangliding lessons, tickets for a gig ....... we need to know a little bit about her and we need to see pictures of course.

i find it really hard to believe that you could be with someone for that long and not know enough about them to know what they want!

Exactly, I'm probably the worst person in the world when it comes to buying things but I always knew exactly what to get my ex for a present. The last present I got her was a big laminated poster of Harrison Ford as Han Solo in Return Of The Jedi, not much but I knew that she'd love it.

Try to think of everything she likes and go from there dude.

A nice ring?
A car?
A weekend trip abroad or up in the highlands somewhere?
A pet?
A salon session?
A make up session?

Was my GF's birthday yesterday I got her concert tickets some perfume and a "I love you teddy" she loved it all. Took her for a meal then back to mine where I had candles and champaine.

£50 budget will probably get you the perfume, maybe a teddy with it?

Get her a neckless or something?

Thats the thing, after 3 birthdays, christmasses, anniversaries and valentines I'm running out of ideas!
She's a Pianist and Clarinet player, a Theologian, has a strange obsession with lush products (but thats been done to death ;)), is a bit of a geek for nintendo games (She's a Zelda addict), likes 80s cheesy music (Hmm, in fact I havnt pandered to that one in a present yet..), and is a big reader. (But she's read all my books as well as hers, so I wouldnt know what to get her there!) She likes easy-reading fantasy especially though. (ie the Narnia books are some of her favourites.)

edit - okay, thats a start then :) So does anyone know any Narnia-esqe, 'Series of Unfortunate Events'-esqe novels? *amazons*

A nice ring, a car or a weekend trip for £50?? :p

Just buy her a nice card and a teddybear and take her out for a nice meal somewhere!

Its a pity you couldnt do what i did, get her and Ipod thats engraved and put a load of 'your' music on their over the last 4 years youve been together.

she sounds like she'd be a piece of cake to buy for! go to your local waterstones, find the guy with the biggest beard and say "my girlfriend's read all the Narnia books, and is 20...what other books would she like". take a dictophone, as he'll list off about 700 books, and you'll never have time to write that.

go through her crappy 80s cd collection, research a few bands, see if she's missiing some cds, and get a couple of those...that's 2 books and 2 cds...so like £20 - £30. get her a Zelda tshirt from Gamestation (£10), and that leaves you a tenner or more for a (tasteful) card and maybe a bit of chocolate/bunch of flowers or something...if she's into that. if not, get her a SNES or N64 if she hasnt already got one, with a couple of games...that'll be like £20 - £30

Check out the Shannara series (easy reading), check out the belgariad series (easy reading)(David Eddings) and although not easy reading she might really like the Thomas Covenant Chronicles (it might appeal to her fantasy side and her theological side).
She might like the Dragon riders of Pern series By Anne McCaffery as well. (easy reading).
